Western culture's negative attitude towards sex continuing in present day even after the revolution?

Studying male and female sexuality and roles in Gender and Women's Studies seems natural to me yet most questions pertaining to sexuality are reported and removed. Why?

According to the guidelines we are allowed to ask questions about sex. Do you think they are appropriate in the context of this category?

"Sex and sexual health questions are allowed on Answers as long as they are not graphic. Don’t refer to body parts with profane words, don’t over-share sexual details, and don’t represent yourself with an avatar that represents adult content. Be sure to categorize your question correctly because it is possible for a question to be abusive in the context of a specific category, even if it would not be considered abusive in the context of a different category."

I have asked questions using proper medical terminology regarding sex in this category and had them reported and removed. Discuss.

They need to get laid and don't want to admit it. That's what it is, I swear.

Hmmmm, now there's a provocative proposition -and a rather reasonable one (based on your narrative).

First, I must add to what other respondents have said or inferred, and that is, I'm not sure that Yahoo or any other ISP that "welcomes" our perspective in blogs, discussion boards, or any other venue, is all that interested in our "voice" be it accurate, revolutionary, or boring.

However, I certainly believe they are all interested in making money and, as such, they make decisions (not necessarily fair or judicious) based on some economic scale and not of a democratic one. That means at any given time, for any given moderator, a question and/or answer can -and will- simply disappear.

With that said, Western culture (generally) is rather repressive and rooted in some Puritanical ideal that wants people to believe there are no such things as genitalia, there is no sex, and the propagation of offspring is some miraculous event akin to the Immaculate Conception or where our children simply appear at the dinner table one evening -working papers in hand- with the stork scurrying off behind them rushing to its next delivery.

It's reprehensible that, in 2008, in a country that self-proclaims as the greatest democracy on earth, we can't even have an open dialogue about the most natural thing regarding the human species -our sexuality. But then, take a gander at what poses for leadership in this nation and it becomes easier to understand why.

Any yahoo on Yahoo can find your conversation objectionable for whatever assinine reason they may have, and if more than one or two of them report your question, it's going to get removed, guidelines or no guidelines. Several years ago when Yahoo had the "old" message boards, some sissified lawyer got his wittle feewings hurt by name calling on the boards, and he got some sympathetic judge to allow him to file a class action lawsuit against the company that would represent every disgruntled dweeb who'd ever posted here. Yahoo rolled over and curled up like little weenies on the barbie under the threat, and ever since they've been acting like scared kittens, deleting everything anyone objects too.

    Kinda sad, really.

Western culture is basically based upon the Bible - which says sex is a gift from God. It is good. And the Bible (as well as any rational human being) recognizes there must be limits placed on something so powerful.

Yahoo! Answers does not reflect western culture. But, rather, it reflects the post Christian culture of rejection of God's authority in such matters and the confusion which always results.

I agree with you sex should be easily discussed among adults in this forum. Teenagers could learn a lot from listening in on an honest discussion of sex. But, as long as there are people whose hate is greater than their reason (or concern for the fellow human beings), such a discussion probably will not occur on an open forum such as this.

May God bless you and your search for Truth.

It's not a western thing - Europeans have no problem with sex. It's a throwback to the puritan ideals - many Americans like to pretend that they still hold to these beliefs, in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

The main function of society is to control the sexual habits of women and defend property, this is to ensure that the man passes everything on to his descendants. There are better forums than YA but they may attract creeps.

YES. I always get yelled at when I bring up the smell and taste of the liquid that comes out my vagina on a daily basis.

I don't think I would use Yahoo as an accurate reflection of any culture.
