How does an Obama/Clinton ticket compensate for McCain's military experience in managing the war?

John McCain's military experience is his best asset as a candidate as the war in Iraq and Afghanistan will be a big factor in the election.

It doesn't, which is why Hillary would not make a good VP choice.

Obama needs someone with extensive foreign policy experience and preferably military experience, too. Hillary's not it.

The fact that she also voted to support the war makes going after McCain as a "war enabler" impossible.

You don't exactly need the military experience to end the war in Iraq by simply removing all the troops. However, the experience can help come up with a plan to successfully remove the troops in a highly structured way and at an appropriate time. A lot of people want to simply remove all the troops from Iraq due to their opinion that we were wrong for going there, we were lie to and ect. But if this were the case, then we should at least come up with a plan to stabilize the country more before we hand over the entire burden to the Iraqi government. Lately the Iraqi Military has been stepping it up, and handling things more with out as much of our help. But this is where the military experience comes in. His experience is necessary to come up with a plan of how to continue the strengthening the Iraqi police, Military, and the Iraqi borders. More needs to be done besides military actions but I fear that if we simply remove troops, it could result in total chaos instead of the pockets of chaos that is taking place in Iraq now.

*I'm all about getting the troops to safety. But if we started a war that a lot of people feel was wrong and actually made things worse for the Iraqi people; then its our responsibility to make things right.

*I was a Sgt in the Marine Corps. I would hate to see the progress (little in some places, a lot in others compared to when the war first started) completely undone.

I disagree, since I heard that McCain doesn't even know the difference between the Sunni and Shia that are fighting against each other in Iraq. Also, I watched a video of him telling a camera man that Iraq was training al Qaeda, and then McCain's right hand man whispers something in his ear, and then McCain says, "Oh right, I mean Iraq is training terrorists, not al Qaeda."

Interesting how even after they confess it was all a lie they still have a hard time believing the truth. Or if nothing else, understanding the reality of the situation. I've also seen McCain arrogantly tell media spokesman that the situation in Iraq is going fine and if you disagree with this you don't have a firm grip on reality. Then, that same anchorman talked to the generals in Iraq and the newsreporters and they accused the same thing back to McCain, that McCain had no grasp on the reality of the situation.

To me, that tells me one thing, McCain is not a good candidate. On a more harsher note I'd have to say that McCain is Insane.

So lemme get this straight. Just because John McCain was a "Vietnam Vet" and a "POW" this is an asset? This is an advantage?! ( o _ 0 ) Vietnam was what? 40 something years ago? We're not dealing with Vietnam. We're dealing with two newer versions of Vietnam called Iraq and Afghanistan. The only exception is, is that we're actually winning the war on terror. Depending upon who you're asking.

Didn't help Kerry much. Most people dont agree with John McCain's stay the course in Iraq.

The war is a big factor in the election. Just not in McCain's favor. Only 30% of Americans are in favor of the war.

We don't have to "compensate" for anything. McCain's time as a POW in 'Nam speaks of great personal strength, but, historically, military service isn't a good indication of being possessed of presidential ability. Nothing prepares you for it. And McCain is quickly losing his advantage on those issues, as the article below suggests. Obama will pick a person who can share the spotlight without taking it and who truly believes in the Obama campaign's message and plans for America. Some one who can garner respect and help him, as a partner.

McCain ought to grant up his militia adventure if Hillary ought to grant up her woman-hood. Oops, has she already accomplished that? that is not easy for Obama and Clinton to have maximum of questionable political institutions and shady fundraising deals. McCain is merely too clean of a toddler-kisser. that's merely now problematic.

GW Bush's military experience didn't help us from getting into two wars.

So far the Republican track record...

    Two wars.

    Bin Laden still not caught.

    Iraq still a mess.

    Even more Muslims hate us.

The thing that bugs me the most is US Soldiers are still dying while Bush retires to live comfortably on his ranch, unremorseful of his actions and lies that started the Iraq war.

Remember, George HW Bush stopped short of taking out Saddam during Operation Desert Storm. Why? Because he was worried that taking out Saddam would destabilize the region, allowing Iran to gain control.

Guess what GW did? Destablized the region by taking out Saddam and Iran is trying to take control of that entire area. GW should have listened to his daddy like a good son.

    Edit...

    TO COOKIE MONSTER:

This is paraphrased from GHW Bush's book "A World Transformed"...

"... Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different - perhaps barren - outcome..."

His (GHW Bush) own words support my claim.

Currently the US is an occupying force in a country in political turmoil. Hence, my comment "GW should have listened to his Daddy, GHW."

You're being brainwashed by the Republican driven media. Start thinking for yourself instead of repeating the same old talking points... "It's the Democrats/Liberals fault."

Mccain's military experience is very impressive. However, most americans these days arent as concerned as they used to be with National Security..Don't get me wrong...it is still a concern but not like it used to be. What most Americans want right now is a better Economy. Mccain has already admitted that the Economy is not one of his strong points.

If there is an Obama/Clinton ticket....the Republican party will not have any hopes of winning the White House...The game will be over.

    Cheers.
