Can I take it back?
I bought a jumper a few days ago and I got it out of the wash this morning and there is a hole in it!
Am I okay to take this back do you think?
I hope I can as I love the top and I do just want it replaced.

Only one way to find out! ;)
Also explain to them like you did here that you like it you just want it replaced!

I did this with a top. I washed it once and it developed a hole. This means the garment is unwearable, and is not fit for the purpose it was designed for - ie- as something to be worn and washed (I assume it had washing instructions which you followed). Your purchase is faulty, so it should be replaced.
I took the top back to the store and asked to swap it for an identical top. They did this without much fuss and I didn't have a receipt. Give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised.

If a garment develops holes after only one wash then it clearly isn't fit for purpose and you are entitled to at least a replacement or a refund.

Legally no as they have no way to know you didn't make the hole when you wore it (which you can't prove you didn't as you have now washed the item. Saying that, if you make enough of a fuss in a busy enough store then they will probably change it as a good will gesture.

I would most definitely take it back. Unless you know that you actually ripped it yourself? Do you still have the receipt? Most stores are pretty good in taking back items that are faulty.

If the hole is on a seam or stitching has come undone, it has to be worth a try!
