Can you answer these "waste some time" hockey type questions?
1) As we all know the cup weighs 34 and a half pounds. Do you think players that are in the Stanley Cup finals, practice by lifting 40 pound weights over their head?
2) Assume that you are Aaron Downey. Rob Niedermayer told you that when he won the Cup a year prior, he had a trophy store remove the base, & he put “something” inside. You asked him what was in the Cup, and he declined to tell you. When you had your day, with the Cup, would you have a trophy shop remove the base to find out what he put in there?
3) How many nerds worldwide are going to wear their Leafs jersey when going to see the movie Love Guru?
4) (Dave Hodge & Howie Meeker) vs. (Don Cherry & Ron Maclean)?
5) In 2001, if the Pens offered Jagr 77 million in 7 years, he may have stayed there. If Jagr was still playing for the Penguins, do you think he would be Captain?
6) Not a big fan of either one, but do you think the Winter Classic or the All Star game captured more new hockey fans?

1) I would hope that someone playing Pro hockey could lift 34 pounds. I can lift a heck of a lot more than that.
2)Nah. I would let the legend grow and see who would be the first to find out. It could turn into another great hockey legend
3)There will always be some who Dress up for a movie. I was hired to do that with a Star Trek Movie a few years ago. I got to see the Movie for free and entertain people . But I have not done it outside of that
4) Don & Ron
5)NO. The Pens might not even be the Pens now if that happened at the time
6)Winter Classic.

1) No... That would risk all superstitions players have and mess with any mental edge.
2) Of course! And if there weren't anything in it, I'd put something in.
3) about 1,000, because that's how many people world-wide actually are willing to let the rest of the world know they are Leafs fans at this time.
4) Dave Hodge and Howie Meeker... Hell, Mike Millsbury even beats Don Cherry (what an ***).
5) No, because they traded him. Besides he was a declining cancer in the organization anyways.
6) Winter Classic- helped take the NHL and new fans to the games roots: skating, passing, and the great outdoors.

1) As biased as I am, I am going to pick fencing. They are always within close range and they are lightning fast. 2) Field hockey players. Most of the floor hockey players I have met/played against have little if any clue about the unwritten codes of the game. I was once permanently banned from a floor hockey league for getting into 3 fights in a 10 game regular season. They had a 1-3-5 fighting rule which carried over from year to year. No-one had ever used all three fights in the same season. 3) Air hockey. Why? Because it's hockey and not soccer. 4) Ramsey. Why? Because he's a hockey player. 5) Winnipeg. It's Canada. New England loves their hockey but it's a way of life in Canada. 6) Hockey forward. Why? Because it's hockey. Seriously, you get more leeway in golf. Even if you are wide of the fairway, you have an opportunity to recover. In hockey, you have a much smaller target or hole and if you miss, you have much less of a chance of recovering. 7) Cherry's wardrobe. I could probably raise a bundle of money auctioning off the wardrobe. People are not going to pay for a dead ferret.

1. serious answer: no (probably because of superstition). but some should. look at Mr. Skin & Bones Hasek. I don't remember if he struggled w/ it or not, but it would do him good to "shock" his muscles a little bit beforehand. really, how embarrassing would it be to have to "belly" the S/C, because you can't "clean & jerk" it, and then press it over your head.
2. trick question. 1. Aaron Downey is not intelligent enough to know where the base is. however, fortunately a trophy shop would. Downey is also not smart enough to know that Rob is playing a joke on him. do i think that Downey would have it opened? yes. can i see myself as Downey? no.
3. another almost trick question. there is an implication here ... that nerds exist who ALREADY like the Leafs. i'm not so sure that i buy that, or what Leafs' fans would say for that matter. it would be the exception that a true "nerd" even knows who the Leafs are. however, in the spirit of your question, yes, i think a lot of bandwagonry will be created by the film, and true Leafs' fans will be sickened.
4. i'm not going to talk about something i don't know about. (i'm ashamed to admit that I don't recall who the first two gentlemen are.)
5. hmm. wow. good question. i wanna say yes. i'm about 60/40 w/ that. but there's always the A. i mean, look at Gonchar and Roberts. maybe now i'm 51/49. or shoot, i think Crosby would still have the C, and Jagr, an A.
6. frankly, the W/C. it got more publicity. i mean, i know that the NFL has a pro bowl every year, but i'd be much more interested if i heard that they'd be playing at Lambeau. shoot, the W/C hit more front webpages of most media outlets (yahoo, msn, washington post, times, sun, etc.)

1) If NHL players can't already lift 40 pounds over their head why are they in the league?
2) No way, thats part of the lore. If I did have them remove the base it would be to put something there myself, not disturb the contents.
3) I suspect lots of Canadians will, then again don't Canucks always wear hockey jerseys?
4) Don Cherry will blind all opoonents with his suits. He can only be defeated by the color blind.
5) I think he would be captain. Nuff said
6) Captured new fans? lol. If anything captures the attention of people it would be the skills competition because that is the only portion of the All star event that features actual hockey talent. The All-Star game has become a travesty. Winter Classic is cool, but I don't think enough people outside the know really knew about it. Not to mention it is on New Years Day, a day dominated by college football. It has no hope of competing against bowl games for ratings.

1) No, I'm pretty sure everyone or almost every player in the NHL can shoulder press fourty lbs. So no extra training needed to hoist the cup.
2) I have to hunt for hidden birthday and christmas presents....so there's no way I wouldn't take the cup to a trophy store and have them check it out. Although, I'd probably try to do it first myself and completely destroy the trophy before I had a "professional" do the job.
3) World wide? 2468 (2300 - Canadian residents, 166 Canadians living/working in America, and 2 - Americans) will wear Leafs jersey's to the movie at some point.
4) Don Cherry & Ron Maclean
5) I'm not sure, I don't have much insight into what Jager was like as a captian. I'm going to say yes, because of the years he put in with the Pens.
6) Winter Classic

1.) I bet there are guys who check out the weight so they don't make a fool out of themselves. 34 pounds over your head is not as light as it sounds.
2.) Curiousity killed the Downey.
3.) All 17 people that go to see it will be wearing Leaf's jerseys.
4.) Never bet against Don "Rock'em Sock'em Hockey" Cherry.
5.) Hmmm, yes, I think Sid would have the A. It's tough to take a C away from a player like Jagr.
6.) Winter Classic. It adds a new dimension and the "spectacle" aspect drew in viewers.

1)Good question..I wonder how St Louis did it..Well I guess if ants can carry 5 times there weight why not the lil fella.
2)NO!!I would have a feeling that Rob had a dog and put something terrible in there. Now that I think aboot it.It would have been funny if Rob put his newly shaved beard in there.
3)They are too busy waiting for the next Star Wars to go to a hockey movie..Is there a such thing as a hockey nerd?Cyernieca not included..jk Cy
4)Cherry and Mac
5)No.It would have been eventually taken from him..Never hoisting the Cup as a Captain either.
6)Winter Classic..The All Star Game has been going on for decades but the Classic has only taken place once prior and that was in Canada.Plus in the Classic there was hitting allowed.

1.) Hopefully a professional hockey player can lift 40 lbs. over his head without practicing. Or maybe they lift those weights just to buff up and make sure they don't drop it and look like idiots.
2.) Yes. If I lacked as much intelligence as he does, then I would get the trophy shop to see what's inside.
3.) I doubt many people are actually going to watch that movie in the first place. It looks horrible.
4.) Don Cherry beats all. Nobody sports those suits quite like he does.
5.) Definitely. He was the ultimate dynamic duo with Lemieux long before Crosby and Malkin. Plus, he would've been on the team his entire career at that point. If the Pens would've still given the captaincy to Crosby there is something seriously wrong with them.
6.) The Winter Classic wasn't great, because it kept snowing and the game kept stopping. That got really annoying. But this kid in my class, who's not a hockey fan, came up to me after the Winter Classic to talk about it. So maybe it did get some people interested.

1) noo.. they are professional athletes, i'm sure they practice by lifting a lot more than 40 pounds.. haha
2) hellllllz yeah, cuz. nobody would have to know i did it.
3) hahahahahah. how lame.. but then again there is another hockey movie coming out that is located in the Mellon Arena while the Pens are playing.. so we have to wonder about the nerdy pen fans too.
4) hahahha. awee.
5) probably. he's selfish and wouldn't want anybody to be captain until he died.
6) Winter Classic. For the simple fact that the All Star game there is no chance in helll that you'll see a fight.. lol
