we found a sick stray cat in the shed and had to put him down.?

I didnt get much awnsers so i am writing this again. Okay, my brother went into the shed and found a cat in the shed. when he broght it into the house he said he wouldnt run away. so we set him down to see why. we scared him little, and he tried to run but he couldnt something was wrong with his leg. we put him in a box and i took it to my room. i started falling inlove with the cat.even though i knew he wouldnt understand , i promised that he would stay in this family and the he would be loved and felling much better. but then we took him to the vet to see what was wrong. i had to leave. but then they called and said that they had to put him down. they said that he had an ifection in his spine that made it so he couldnt walk. He would have died anyways. But then i broke into tears. Then I rememberd the promises i had made him, and i broke them all. now i cant stop crying and i dont know what to do.

Update:

i didnt mean to add the ?

Sweetie, you did everything you could do for him. You should be proud of that. It's so, so hard to lose someone. You'll see him in heaven someday.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

The cat was sick when you brought him in. You gave him love and care for his last days. That's a great thing. He may have never known that if not for you. I believe our pets will see us in Heaven. I have a couple up there I can't wait to see again. I hope you can get another cat now. That would be a great tribute to your stray friend- to adopt another and give it a great life. You seem like a cat would be very lucky to have you for a friend. Ask your parents about adopting a cat from a shelter. You can save it's life and it will be healthy. Shelter cats get vet care before you bring them home.

By taking him to the vet you showed him a lot of love and putting him to sleep was a big favour to him. Now he will never ever be hurt or miserable, cold or hungry again.

These things make us sad but they are for the best when they happen like this - just imagine what would have happened if your brother hadn't found him - he would have been there frightened, hurting, hungry and alone. What you did was a good thing.

    Bless you.

putting it down was far more better than it living in pain....if it would have died anyways the vet was doing it a favor....its alright to cry.... one of the kittens my cat had died for an unknown reason...and it was my favorite so i cried alot...but animals dieing is somthing ive had to learn to deal with since i live on a farm where coyotes and possoms kill our chickens and somtimes our cats........its just part of life....you'll be ok in a few weeks....(even though that seems impossible right now)
