how often should i take my cat to the vet?

i have an indoor cat and she's almost 2 years old. she's a burmese, and the last time i took her was in... i think november. she's only been outside once, by accident. she's had all her shots and is the only animal in the house. how often should i take her to the vet?

My answer will not be popular but I'll give it anyways. LOL Your cat does not need to be seen by the vet unless there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Teeth cleaning, claws clipped, fleas, or whatever - you can certainly see the vet for it. But yearly booster shots are not necessary for an indoor cat and in fact there are studies that show that they can be harmful because of the danger of getting cysts or even tumors in the injection sites and also because the boosters are a waste of time.

Please make sure that for any things that change with your cat - who, btw, is very cool, the burmese are a beautiful cat! - that a vet is consulted. Just that it is not necessary for an indoor single cat to be taken to the vet every six months without a reason. You are the best judge of whether a cat is 'off it's feed' or is acting unusual and it's vet time. Otherwise, don't give him money for something that isn't necessary LOL

Your vet would probably want to see her once or twice a year at her age for a full physical. I take mine in about once a year when they are young, When elderly, they go for the physical and usually wind up there more often due to age related problems.

  • Hello,

At 2 years old, she can go in for an annual checkup although a bi-annual would be preferable. It really depends on the attending vet and also if you have a preference.

Once a year for a check-up and boosters on her vaccinations. And whenever she is ill or injured.

once a year for a check up is just fine unless something happens that makes you feel she is not well.
