Isn't It Rubbish.....?

.....when you look at your 'Best Answer' notification & it's only chosen by voters rather than the person who asked it in the first place?

Because I'm not interested in points I take no pleasure from getting a best answer unless it was genuinely helping someone. I know the majority of times I answer someone & get a 'chosen by voters' response it almost certainly means the fish in question is already dead & the person who asked it has neither the interest or responsibility to follow anything through. I think this is a general reflection of how many people see fish as disposable, short term items rather than long-term pets. On the other hand it's very heart-warming to get a reply that says you helped someone & their fish. What do you think about this?

yes it is, and it's also kinda frustrating sometimes

because you put so much thought in the answer you give, look for links to explain your answer better and sometimes you write an answer which is almost a page long

yes, it's rubbish, i couldn't agree more with you

when i look into the unresolved Question section, it's even more frustrating to see on how many q's are actually not resolved yet

i'm all about helping people as much as i can, i even refer q's which i have no clue about to others which know better then i do to give the person the best help possible

i don't know everything, and there is no way anyone can know everything, but i do take pride in what i know and am always willing to learn

it always warms my heart, to see when i actually was able to help someone

or to see that someone apprecciates that i actually read the Question over again at a later time to see if there where any additions made which would help to get further down to the root of the problem or actually explain why there is a problem in the first place

i'm definately not here for the points, but to help as many people with their fish problems as i can

i had to learn many things the hard way out of mistakes i made because i didn't know better, i would have loved to actually have people who would have taught me otherwise at a way earlier time

I definately prefer to get chosen as a BA from the Asker themselves, it's much more satisfying

and if i can save just one fish a day from dying because i answer a Question, i'm happy

    Edit*

*wondering* how you can get 7 thumbs down on a completely legit answer

Hi. It's so nice to see someone who is so concerned about giving good helpful answers on here.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who takes the time to answer questions seriously.

Once in awhile I had felt the same way...until I asked a question and had every intention on choosing a best answer.

I was unable to get online, and when you don't respond within a few days, Yahoo Answers will automatically put your question to voting. I was so disappointed because I wanted a certain person to know how much I appreciated their help with my question.

However, what I did take out of it was the fact that when a question goes to in voting,...it doesnt' necessarily mean that the person didn't care.

They could be someone just like me, who for whatever reason couldn't get online or neglected to get on soon enough. Hope this helps! Good question!

EDIT: I think its really more fun when askers comment about your answer. I kinda enjoy reading them and try to improve...

You're absolutely right, but that's the nature of the internet I'm afraid. Global participation and all that.

People will forget/ignore answers. Humans are irresponsible, if not we wouldn't have all these wars 'this one is going to be the last one. Promise!'. You can take comfort from the fact that a good answer may resonate with more than one person. If asker then chooses somebody else's answer, at least you know that other people do think you had a point.

Other than that: this is the interwebs, don't take it too seriously, it's going to ruin your day.

    Enjoy :)

i think its quite satisfying to get chosen as a best answer, you know that youve helped somebody and your answer/advice was worth listening to.

i think that the majority of people will choose abest answer but as its happened to me before, i havent been back on in time to choose and then the community has voted for me, i think that that is unfair.

it's a disappointment every time! it's nicer to see the original persons opinion, their choice, seeing as they asked the question in the first place. but oh well.

Here Here!! I take no interest in points either. Frankly, I rarely vote on mine or any other questions. I frequently receive e-mails from question askers with follow up questions and I correspond with them to help as much as possible.

I agree that points are meaningless. It's always more rewarding to have your answer chosen by the asker. I also take great pleasure in receiving notice that I've helped someone help their pet.

yes, i agree, it is more satisfying and fun to get a best answer from the asker. if you get it from the voters, its as if the asker never even looked at any of the answers, so you just wasted a few minutes of your time to try to help them. but still, its nice to get 10 pts, even if its from voters.

My favourite is the ones who ask a question promising they will choose the best answer and then never do.
