If I had to pay the IRS will I still get an economic stimulus check?

I have heard that I will and I have heard that I will not. I didn't owe any back taxes and paid what I owed this year so I do not have a "debt" to the IRS. Can someone clarify for me? Thanks!!

I did my taxes on H&R Block online, they wouldn't have taken the stimulus money out of what I owed would they??

Yes - it is based upon your income - not on what you owe.

You can check out your stimilus rebate online at www.irs.gov

ALL tax returns are considered for the rebate. If you qualify, you qualify whether you got a refund, owed or fully paid when you filed.

I believe the bulk of the confusion has to do with how looooong it takes the IRS to process a tax return.

The IRS has a published guideline for refund returns that they should get the tax return processed within 8 weeks. (After that, they have to pay interest.) There is no official guideline for non-refund returns. Non-refund returns are processed on a space available basis, meaning that a refund return coming in after it will get a higher priority. (In most years, the only people who realize this are folks trying to get a loan or financial aid who need proof that they filed...after all, if the IRS cashed your payment, you'd figure you were done, right?)

Once the tax return *is* processed, the rebate program will notice the return is done it's next pass--generally 2 weeks later. Petite was lucky, 11 weeks is bad, but the more common 14-16 weeks feels like it's forever....

As long as you have paid the amount your return shows you owe and have no other outstanding tax debt, back child support, etc you will still receive a stimulus check according to the schedule published on the IRS website. The amount you receive is based on your 2007 earnings as well as the number of dependents (if any) you claimed on the return.

IF YOU OWE THE IRS AS YOUR STIMULUS LETTER READS THAT REFUND WOULD BE INTERCEPTED AS WELL TO SATISFY ANY OUTSTANDING DEBTS YOU HAVE! ALSO THERE IS A OFFSET NUMBER YOU CAN CALL TO SEE IF YOUR REFUND WOULD BE OFFSET AT 1-800-304-3107 AND JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

Yes you will, as long as you have paid whatever you owed.
