My cat has never been afraid of thunder until today. What can I do about it?
I'm not sure why she is afraid of thunder all of a sudden. The thunder isn't all that bad but she is just cowering every time it thunders. How can I help her through this and not be afraid anymore?

I wouldn't try to comfort the cat! You are only going to indicate that it is 'ok' to feel anxious and scared. I agree with the 'safe place' comment--just let the cat go to a safe place. For future storms, maybe try desensitizing the cat by slowly introducing thunder through music. There are recordings of storms available, and if you start playing them softly and increase the sound, maybe your cat will get used to it. Check out the links!

Cats have fears just like humans. the best thing you can do is set up a "safe place" under the bed or in the corner where they can hide 'till the storm is gone. Put a blanket down, maybe a favorite toy and food and water. If they don't like this, hold them in your lap and pet and comfort them. Our cats are afraid of thunder too, but just being calm and caring will let them know that it's okay.
Hope this helps you! (And your kitty!)

I don't know if you could do anything. Sometimes cats just get in weird moods. Mine is calm one minute and then running around the house like the tazmanian devil the next!!! Just try to talk to your cat in a calming voice and pet her. She'll be fine. If she's hiding, just let her hide.
