  • My cat has never been afraid of thunder until today. What can I do about it?

I'm not sure why she is afraid of thunder all of a sudden. The thunder isn't all that bad but she is just cowering every time it thunders. How can I help her through this and not be afraid anymore?

  • Cats won't drink water when eating....?

I recently noticed that my two cats drink 6-8 oz of water a day when I feed them Merrick but they drink about 6-8 oz a week when I feed them Evo 95% wet food (beef flavor). What's up with that?

  • What should I expect from my younger cats after my older cat dies?

Velvet, my 15 year old cat, is dying from kidney failure. It won't be very long now. This past week she has spent a good deal of time at the vet. My other two cats didn't seem to miss Velvet. Now that she is back home, they either ignore her or hiss at her. I've never lost a pet before so this is all very new but I think I'm as prepared as a human can be (which isn't much), but I haven't got a clue what to expect from my kitties. I know grief is common but I would have expected something, anything from them this week when Velvet was gone but there was nothing. They just quickly became the Tonkinese twosome and Velvet no longer exists. Are they still likely to miss her? What can I expect to see from them and what's the average amount of time cats usually grieve? Thanks!

  • Benedryl Conversion Help?

An injection of Diphenhydramine was given of 50mg/ml (.12ml 1M). How many mg would that be. The Benedryl pills are 25 mg each and I'm trying to see how many pills are equivalent to the injection. Also, what does the .12ml 1M mean? Thanks.

  • Cat food Quandary - what do I feed all three cats? Two have special health issues.?

My kitten has the most sensitive stomach ever. I've tried Innova Evo, Wellness, and Royal Canin IVD dry foods. All give her diarrhea. She tried the Royal Canin Kitten food. It didn't give her diarrhea but it gave her struvite crystals. I've also tried Science Diet c/d and none of my three cats will eat it, wet or dry. I feed Merrick wet food and they like it a lot. It doesn't give my kitten diarrhea or make her vomit. Sometimes it makes her cough though.

I want to find a dry food they can all eat that will be easy on Tosca's stomach, not cause crystals, and will be safe and healthy for the other two cats. Velvet has CRF and Marina is perfectly fine. I prefer very high quality foods like Innova but so far they don't agree with Tosca's tummy. Feeding all of them separately is not an all the time option. I want to find something dry they can all eat for those times when I go out of town or something comes up that keeps me from coming home early enough to feed them their evening meal.

  • What is the best food for my kitten with diarrhea?

My 16-week old kitten has been checked for worms 3 times within 2 weeks and all tests have been negative. She was on flagyl and probiotic and is done with that. Her food consisted of Merrick wet food and Wellness Dry food. I keep a water fountain clean and full at all times. She does not eat table scraps or get milk. She is not dehydrated and is gaining weight at a healthy pace. The only symptom is very loose stool or diarrhea. And until today, she was only pooping two or three times a day. Today she pooped twice between 6:30 and 7:00 am.

Assuming it is her diet, which seems the most logical at this point, what are your thoughts on foods that claim to be nutritionally balanced for all life stages? What are your suggestions for brands of foods that do not have by-products, wheat or corn? I understand the Wellness may be contributing since it is an adult food, but I didn't realize that until yesterday. I thought it was for all life stages. I want her to have the best food available.

  • My 16 week old kitten has diarrhea...what next?

I got my kitten 4 weeks ago and her stool was fine but it quickly turned to a loose stool and then diarrhea. I don't remember what the breeder was feeding her but I think it was Iams. I started feeding her Royal Canin Baby Cat. Once I thought she was ok to have access to the house and the other cats, she stopped eating the Royal Canin and started eating the cat's food. I tried to keep her on the Baby Cat but she wouldn't eat it. Every morning I give the cats one can of Merrick wet food and a scoop of Wellness dry food.

I took her to the vet a week ago, when the diarrhea was at it's worst. The vet prescribed Metronidazole and said otherwise, she is perfectly healthy. She just finished taking that. It's been six days since her first dose and there has been less than 10% improvement.

I have a call in to my vet to see what's next. I know that my vets, while very good, don't know everything, so I'm looking for some advice on here as well.

  • How do I reassure my resident cat that the new kitten is ok without reinforcing her negative feelings?

I have three female cats. Velvet is a 15 year old burmese mix, Marina is a 2 1/2 year old Tonkinese and Tosca is a 13 week old Tonkinese. Velvet and Tosca have gotten along great from day 2. No hissing or growling unless Tosca plays with Velvet's tail. Marina is having the problem. I think the problem is I hadn't been away from Marina in 2 years (since she was 6 monts old). I went away for 4 days and brought back a kitten. I think Marina is insecure about having been left for so long and of course about the new kitten.

The kitten is being kept in the guest bedroom. Marina hisses and growls when she smells the kitten or when she hears the kitten move or meow. Marina won't even go near that side of the house unless she has to use the litter box (which is in the office).

How do I reassure Marina that everything is ok and the new kitten is ok without reinforcing her frequent hissing and growling?
