What major would be most helpful for a career within a state's government?
Hi there!
I'm in my 5th year with the US Navy and I finished my Associates in Electronics Technology, and it's time to work on my Bachelors.
I originally wanted to do Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, but about a year after I joined the military, my state went downhill fast, and I'd like to do something about it when my time in the Navy is finished in 2 years.
Obviously, political science is an obvious choice for federal government positions, but what other majors are out there that would be helpful for a state government system?

I know with provincial governments the skills are
- Financial/Management
-Medical (Hospitals ae under thr Dept. of Health)
- Computer programers. (Not techs, just programers)
If your state has an online job board, check it out and you can see what sort of things are being looked for.

Just about anything -- health, sociology, psychology, public policy, journalism, public relations -- and if you want a high-level federal position, you need to think about a Master's Degree.
Look at www.usajobs.gov for jobs you would like to do, and look at the degree and experience such require -- that will give you something to shoot for.
