I JUST BOUGHT A 5 WEEK OLD PITTBULL. I BOUGHT HER FOR PROTECTION FOR MY FAMILY..ITS JUST ME AND MY DAUGHTER.. THEY ARE LOVING ANIMALS . BUT MOST PEOPLE USE THEM AS FIGHTING DOGS.. DONT GET ME WRONG ITS IN THEM. BUT YOU TRAIN THEM THE RIGHT WAY YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM. ANY DOG CAN ATTACK. BUT ITS IN YOU TO RAISE THEM RIGHT THEY ARE JUST LIKE CHILDREN. MY DOG WILL BE TRAINED TO PROTECT ME AND MY DAUGHTER ONLY!!!!!!!!!! I LIVE IN A ROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD AND ALOT OF MEN SEEM TO WANT TO MESS AROUND WITH ME.. PITBULLS ARE FUN , LOVING AND PROTECTION DOGS... JUST READ UP ON THEM...

From my experience. They make good family dogs. It is all how you raise them. Give them lots of love an attention. Do not bother them if they are maiting. Get them when they are babies. Pound dogs can be a good way to get a pitbull, but you have to ask many questions. For example who owned them. What is their history. Why are they their.

A shelter and a vet told me that they are more predictable than a german sheppard.

I would call a couple local vets and ask questions.

Second, They can come off strong around people, for example barking. The growl is what you should watch out for.

Our neighbor has a pit bull and I have small dog. The pitbull would come to the screen door everyday and bark once. My dog would run around in a circle and bark like crazy at him. One day he got out and started jumping on the pitbul. The pitbul, just let him jump all over him and bite his ear. Not to be graphic but my small dog tried to over take him from behind. The pitbull just sat their a took it.

Now when he comes to the door and barks, I let my little dog out and they play. They are now best friends.

Again it is all how you raise them. Brendals are very smart and by nature sweet. Any dog can be trained attack. The problem with pitbulls is they have a big jaw and if they are raised without proper guidance, trained to fightand abused. their natural instinct is to fight. When they fight they do damage.

There are responsible breeders that produce pit bulls who are good family dogs. Unfortunately, in the States at least, too many people raise them and sell them when they have no idea what they are doing. If you are looking to buy a pit I would suggest you do your homework and study the following: How to choose a puppy from a litter, temperament testing techniques, socializing techniques for pit bull pups, meet the parents of your pup and don't meet them once, meet them in several settings, at their home, at a local park, and another public location so you get an idea how well the parents have been socialized. After you go through all this, you should be able to make a decently educated decision. If you don't feel like doing all of these steps, you probably are not a good fit for the breed. Just my humble opinion :) PS I just want to add ... if you get in contact with a breeder who will not go through the hoops I described to let you get to know their dogs before you make a purchase, it's a good sign they are in breeding simply for the money and not to further the breed in a responsible and positive manner. Don't be surprised if you run into people like that. Just don't do business with them!

I would avoid it, if you had little kids, pitbull is a very physical dog, need lots of time spend on it, and has to be a good hand, but there's far too many owner abuse their pitbull, also check with your city or state law, some ban from had pitbull.

Yes, pitbulls are trained to be mean. So if you train it to be loving to your family, it will be a good family dog. Some of the sweetest dogs I've met have been pitbulls.

pittbulls can be wonderful pets depending on how they are raised. They are/were bread to be aggressive tho. I personally would choose a different breed for a family pet. Boxers are wonderful family dogs and have a similar look to pitts, they are a little taller. Boxers are tolerant, smart, loyal, protective of owner, and just super sweet. Only down side is they are large (50+ lbs) and are hyper. They need to be outside so they can play. good luck and do ur research!

Yes, if socialized and trained properly, treated with compassion, and allowed to be a family member rather than chained up outside. Pits actually are great with kids, in general.

pit bulls are loyal dogs, the only reason they are good fighting dogs is because they are loyal to there owner. i definitely recommend a pit bull as a family dog
