What should I expect in the way of wedding gifts?

We are having a somewhat small backyard wedding with about 75 guests. It will be catered, what can I expect in the way of monetary gifts? I at least want to have some extra $$ to spend on our week-long honeymoon. I am getting married because I am in love, and the thought of monetary gifts just crossed my mind because we have spent a considerable amount already. Thanks

Well, its never polite to "expect" gifts.

However, I just got married on June 20th. I invited 25 people. We received about $1,600 in monetary gifts, in addition to non-monetary gifts. It was way more than I ever anticipated (I wasn't expecting any gifts at all). But, be warned, its never good to count your chickens before the eggs hatch!

    Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Then I advise you save for your HM. Going in to it expecting money is sort of immature don't you think? It also just zipped the fun right out of your wedding! I personally never, ever give gift cards or money for a wedding or wedding related event. That is my personal choice and there are others like me. Perhaps you should go in to as how much fun can I expect to have since I am getting married, invited 75 people and its catered? Anything after that is sheer bonus and trust me, with that attitude ANY amount will be awesome.

    Congrats and GL!

Hi. I don't know. It all depends on how generous your guests are and if you are also registered somewhere.

Many people do like to bring a gift (something they wrap) instead of just money. Others, prefer to give a card and money.

With 75 guests....that is only about 37 couples. IF every couple gave you $50....well, that would be $1850. Some may give more, some may give less, some may bring a gift. It's really anyone's guess!!

You can expect both money and gifts Some people will buy you things that they see fit that you'll need (like a toaster, microwave, things like that; especially if you've registered with a store).. However, at my wedding, I received over $3,000 dollars (and I had 103 guests) and tons of gifts, without having high expectations. Play it cool, people know you're going on a honeymoon, there will surely be money coming your way.

Don't *expect* anything. If you set yourself up to get a certain minimum amount, and you don't get it, then you're just going to be disappointed. Yes, you will likely get some money. If you have registered at any stores, then you will likely get less cash than boxed gifts. But you should really consider any amount you get to be a blessing, and it will be easier to see it that way if you initially expect nothing at all.

for most weddings, a handful of people will get you gifts like picture frames, etc, but most will give you money. my friends and i always give $50 if we go to a wedding alone, or $100 if we bring a date. i think most people will give you around those amounts. so that are close to you may give more. and others will give less.

It depends upon the age of your guests.

I think it is rude to ask for cash. You should just register like everyone else does.
