Videos are great, but do you know it already? If not, I'd start by just learning some signs for simple words. If you do the sign every time you say the word and try to get him to do it, it will eventually click. My cousin taught their son words like "more", "dog", "bottle or drink". It was very helpful before he could talk.

Assuming you and your family can hear, why would you want to teach him sign language at this age. He is just starting to develop his language skills and should learn to use words. If he learns how to sign he will take the easy way out and use signs instead of developing his language skills like 18 month babies are supposed to.
My daughter who is three spoke fluently at 18 months. May son is 19 months old, he doesn't speak as well. He knows many words, and occasionally will put two or three together to form short sentences. I have noticed that he has developed a form of sign language all on his own. He is very expressive and he doesn't really need to use words to convey his message. I think that both are related. Either speech was difficult for him so he developed a signing system instead or he started signing and that works fine for him so he figured he doesn't really have to work so hard on developing his speaking skills.
Basically, what I'm saying is that you should do what's good for you kid. If he's starting to talk encourage that don't start teaching him another method that will just confuse him and give him an easy out from using words. On the other hand, if he's signing on his own, don't discourage it, but I wouldn't encourage it either, just try to learn what he means by each sign.
When he's a little older and he speaks well you can start teaching him to sign. It will be easier also at that age.
