I adopted a cat and it keeps pooping and peeing on the floor

I adopted a long hair tabby from a woman who had to get rid of him due to her son's allergies. He is neutered and de-clawed and a beautiful friendly cat. I have had him for 3 days now. The first two nights, he peed on my couch and this afternoon, I found that he had pooped in my son's room. I moved the litter box yesterday and he has used it since. His previous owner said that he likes it kept clean, so I have done so, yet he is still misbehaving. What do I do? I think he was very attached to his previous owner and he is very upset over the move and that is probably why he is acting up. Just the same, I can't have him doing this. How do I get him to stop?

I think your cat is just a little nervous because he is new to the family and he is just confused because everything is different. Your cat just needs time to get used to you and some cats are more fearful than others. I put down some sites that I think really answer your question. Hope this helps!

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!

Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

  • Don't move the litter box. When he does poop somewhere other then the box. I'd place the poop in the box. Its probably new and doesn't have his sent in it. You might want to try keeping him in the room with the box so he knows where its at. 3 days isn't really long enough for him to get used to you. I am sure he is nervous about his new surroundings. He'll probably be better soon.. PS.. Keep all doors shut where you don't want him to be.

When i had my cat, he started pooing on the floor or under the bed. And i always kept his box clean, so what i did was pick up the poo and put it in the litter box. and would make him smell it. i did these a few times before he actually started to use the box. And when i was home and i would see he is looking for a place to poo i would put him in the box till he did it. Sometimes once i would put him it the box he wouldnt go poo but i still made him stay in the box. so that way he knows that were poo goes.

Well it is going to take him a few days to adjust. After a while he will get used to this new setting, but you are going to let him know the rules , when he does that, put his nose in it and tell him that it is bad. Just keep on top of it. Give it a month, and then if that doesn't work, it will be your decision to keep the animal or not.

try keepin it in a room when it needs to go with the litter box and dont let it out without it goin to the bathroom. p.s - make sure is like a very smal room so it wont poop or pee somewhere else.

perhaps try a larger litter box. it has worked for our cats. i do not know the name but there is a spray that will stop a cat from peeing in a certian place, if he keeps peeing on the couch

He isn't use to his new surroundings yet. It will take him a few days to get use to it and he will stop peeing and pooping on the floor.

i think he is scared but make sure you introduced him to the litter box maybe sit with him and see if he has to go then put him in the box
