Several months ago, I wrote a check and then had issues with my bank and it bounced

The other day I got a court notice that I have to go to a preliminary hearing 8/20, the problem is we are set to move into our new house in Georgia on 8/19. What do I do, do I skip it, or will they allow me to go?

Update:

I guess I should explain a few things, I bounced the check right before I moved it was for 300 to fill my oil tank. We moved out of town, and I just forgot about it, I had closed my bank account to a local bank and didnt think about it...until I got the notice.

We live in Pennsylvania, and are moving to Georgia,

I guess more what I am asking is, if I get a lawyer, can they keep me in state? We dont have anywhere to live after the 19th of the month.

You have to telephone the Clerk of the Court and discuss the case, they may advise you that you can make reparations or will have to attend court. If so you can ask for a postponement.

Failing to appear AND crossing a State line could make you technically a fugitive from justice and liable for a Federal warrant for your arrest.

Don't let it reach that stage, get on the phone and sort it out.

I would go otherwise they may put a warrant out for your arrest depending on if it was a subpoena or not and you will loose the judgment against you why didn't you pay it? I have never heard anyone having to go to a preliminary for a bounced check there is something you are not telling us in your question....is Georgia that far away from the court house you need to attend? if so move in and then go to court the next day you can move in 1 day.

HELL no don't skip it. Contact the court FIRST thing in the morning. You can ruin your credit and/or WORSE. Taking care of this takes precedence over anything you have to do before moving.

See if they can move the date up or-they might just be able to have you pay it over the phone or by dropping off payment. When you sign a check, it is a legal document that binds you to pay that amount. If you skip the court date, they will most likely issue you out a warrant for that state...and-if you get stopped in Georgia, the warrant MAY show up.

you skip it, and they'll make sure you come back. call the court and see if you can get it scheduled sooner.
