Did anyone walk down the aisle in silence (kind of)?

I am getting married on the beach. I don't have money for a band out there and I decided, since it is only two songs (the processional and recessional) that I would just bring a CD and have someone start and stop a small stereo. There aren't any speakers or anything like that out there, we will just have to crank it up loud. My cousin has agreed to do this, but I am worried that no one will be able to hear the music over the ocean. I'm okay with this, since I don't have much of a choice, but will it be really weird? Has anyone been to a wedding were there wasn't any processional/recessional music or you couldn't hear it well? Was it ok?

Update:

No. I am having a destination wedding. Everyone is traveling and I don't want to ask anyone to bring a guitar or anything else. It is week and a hlf away now, so I can't have anyone learn a song that quickly anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. Just test out the stereo before hand so you can adjust the volume so it plays over the sound of the ocean. I am sure that people will be able to hear it...

If your only alternative is a stereo that needs to be managed by a guest, I would totally skip it. The music is a cue, though, for those in the processional, and especially for the bride. Without the cue, everyone will really need to know what they're doing and when, and give them some other cue, like "when this person gets to this point on the aisle, the next person goes". A program of who is walking might be a cue for your guests as to when you make your "entrance" and when they should stand. Also, let your relatives know to stand so everyone else will follow, and don't take one step further until everyone is standing.

I haven't been to weddings on the beach before but I have been to some outdoor weddings where the sound system wasn't the best and it was like they were walking down the aisle in silence. I thought it was still beautiful. Music tends to help with the pace of the walk and is really more for you and your groom as something sentimental. I think walking to your groom to the sound of the ocean would be romantic.

Remember - your wedding = your and your groom's day. Do what you feel comfortable with and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. They're not going to be part of your marriage. As long as you're happy - that's what matters!

    Good Luck!

It's no problem. I'm told there was music playing when we walked the "aisle" toward the minister, but I didn't hear a single thing. I didn't even hear the ocean, though we were about 2 feet from it! Our minister brought a small cd player or whatever and had a song playing. It's not the kind of thing anyone will even notice at all, I promise.

I went to a beach wedding a couple of years ago where there wasn't any music at all and it was great. The bride walked down the "aisle" with only the sound of the ocean in the background... it was magical and beautiful. To be honest, no one missed the music and it was a good break from "here comes the bride". You will be fine.

There could be some problems with the stereo. It might not be loud enough. Someone will have to fade in and fade out the music. And the loudest setting might be be scratchy sounding.

I would just do no music at all. Its unusual, but its a brilliant idea. Youve got an ocean and sand... hardly needs much else, dont you think?

Actually, at my memory, the ocean is not making that of a noise and if you put the sound of your stereo at the higher level, it should be okay. To answer your question, I never saw a wedding where there was no music, but we actually were in a church, so that was pretty easy to use the church sound system. However, I think that in those circumstances, if the ocean is making a real noise, people would understand, and the ocean sounds are actually a good music.

Good luck on your "new life"!

I was at an outdoor wedding on the weekend. There was a string quartet. Unfortunately they were downwind of us and the expressway was upwind. We felt bad for the couple because of the problems hearing. Just skip the music.

i think it would be pretty to just have some light music playing but it would be beautiful to hear the ocean too. it wont be silent dont worry. the sound of the ocean is beautiful. just do your idea of the light music in the backround and the ocean too would be really pretty. lsiteing to the ocean would be prettier than having a big band or orchestra anyways. at least thats what i think. i hope this helps.

I think the waves crashing on shore is beautiful music- you don't need anything else. having music play from a stereo is a little ghetto so I would skip that.
