The origin of the bible character "satan"... Where is it in the bible?

I know and understand the "common belief" of how Satan came about, but cannot find it in the Bible. Can somebody please give me SCRIPTURE <as in Book, Chapter, and Verse> where this is documented?

In another question...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200809...

an answer was this...

"It was the lust for power that made them rebel, or haven't you read the bible?"

I've heard that many times, too, but can't find it in the Bible.

Not interested in a Revelation 12 explanation...

Update:

The Isaiah 14:12 scripture is about Lucifer, son of the morning... and what ever that verse is about, the rest of the chapter is about the fall of babalon, and has nothing to do with the origin of Satan. Thank you, though... one must take that specific verse completely out of context to assume that it describes the origin of satan.

Update 2:

Ezekiel 26:21

This scripture <like the ENTIRE chapter> is about/directed toward a character named Tyrus, who attacked the Hebrew Capitol. Interesting, though, that Babalon is also mentioned in this scripture. I may see a pattern.

Update 3:

Ezekiel 28:13-19

Again, the begining of this chapter said, specifically, who this "Word of God" was directed at. The character Tyrus. Verse 2 said specifically "Thou art a man." The name Satan... or even Lucifer isn't mentioned in the entire chapter. Just in case you aren't sure, God reminds us WHO this is about in verse 12. Verse 18 describes a complete destruction that will astonish the surrounding nation's kings.

Update 4:

I assume context is only mandatory for those who claim to be unbelievers. Believers can take random scriptures from any place they want to make it say anything they want... and as long as they have "faith:" ... that is just the way it is. What a sad, sad statement.

I understand, I really do. I used to think those scriptures said that, too... just because people told me that it did. When I read them for myself, they said something completely different. Don't be ashamed. You should be able to trust those who call themselves ministers and bible teachers. Unfortunately, that isn't the reality we live with.

Thank you for your answers. I appreciate each and every one of them.

I don't believe it's ever specifically laid how how Satan was created. He was just always part of the Bible.

The bible is very clear as to where Satan came from. His evil nature started before the garden of Eden and is more rampant today for he knows his time is short.(Rev.20:1-3) As stated below in Isaiah 14:12, his name was Lucifer. He was the highest of the archangels and as Ezekiel 28:12 states, he was Gods main one. There is no reason to go into an in-depth study and list all the scriptures that pertain to Satan's down fall. Anyone with the least of intelligence can get a bible and a concordance and see for themselves.

    Read Isaiah 14:12

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Rev 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

Luk 10:17 ¶ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Luk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Job 1:7 "And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."

Satan as the "morning star" and his "fall" has nothing to do with the Bible. It's all about astrology.

Satan's job, from the Bible originally, was God's prosecutor.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints has all the answers with Scripture references but, in a nut shell, you and I were spirit children of God (hosts of Heaven) and were sent to earth to be tried and tested. Christ said He would give righteous principles and we would have our free agency to choose. He would pay for the sins of those who repented (changed their ways) and the rest would pay for their own sins, but all would be saved and He would give God the glory.

Satan said he would force obedience and save everyone so he would take the glory. Christ was chosen, so Satan rebelled and was cast down to earth along with a third of the hosts, to become the devil and his angels to try and torment man(opposition is necessary).

You should have watched KPBS last night. They did an episode on the origins and history of Satan. He began in Zoroastrian times and was adopted by early Jews into their writings.
