please help, i think something is wrong with my cat?
My cat has been acting strange lately. He occasionally coughs and it sometimes sounds like hes going to throw up a hair ball, i know its kinda gross but nothing ever comes out!! This has been going on about 4 days. He's been kinda shy lately as well, never seems to want to come out like he usually does. Also he's laying in places he normally doesnt, i don't know if that has anything to do with it but please help! I dont know if this could potentially be serious!?

Call the vet! Your cat may have eaten something that is causing him pain. Cats do not always "cry " when they are hurting. They may be more likely to change their behavior and even "stare" at the area on their body that huts them..like their stomach maybe. My cat ate tinsel once form our christmas tree. It can kill a cat. He behaved much like you say cat is behaving now.

Pet owners are very in tune with their animals and you have obviously noticed a significant change is his behavior. His behavior is a good indicator that something is wrong because he is hiding and acting shy. And as we know they certainly cant tell us what is wrong. I would make an appt. with your vet. Also, consider any other things that you have noticed and tell the vet such as his eating or his litter box use or any other other things you might consider strange as this can help the vet diagnose him. One of my two 9.5 yr. old cats seems perfectly healthy, eating well, using the litter box, except for the fact that she has quit jumping up on to the kitchen counter to eat, or on to the couch cushion from the floor, or up onto the kitchen table. This is odd for her and caught my attention. It's like she cant judge distance or something but the fact that she has stopped doing something she has done for her whole life is odd. She has a vet visit tomorrow. May not be any thing to worry about it but I know my cats behavior and it has changed so better to be safe than sorry. Best Wishes!

Take him to the vet. My cat has a habit of eating pieces of chewed up rubber dog toys that get stuck in her intestinal tract. She has done it that 3 times now...but she gets very quite and finds places to lay down where no one is and just doesn't act like herself when this happens.... She is normally very lovey and always attached to my mom. I hope its nothing serious as my troubled cat...but get it checked out just to be safe

It could be serious, so i suggest, like posters before me, you call your vet. Better to have her checked, so he can fix it is something is wrong.
It could just be a stuck hairball(my cat had that once) and my vet gave me some stuff, looks like wormpaste, to feed it, so it came out.
Good luck

your cat sounds sick take them to the vet, usually when they dont feel good they find a dark place to hide
