What's pulling so much power? My electric bill is $90 higher than last year!?
Last month, my electric bill was $165 ($40 higher than 2007), the month before than was $28 higher. The month, I get my bill and (IKES) it's $232!!! $90 higher than last year's bill.
I called the electric company and unfortunately the meter numbers are correct (except for the fact that it's gone up 360 since it was read on the 3rd!!! They said to shut everything done and check one room at a time to see what area is causing the meter to jump because something was pulling power. Any ideas???? As of right now, they said were paying over $6.00/day - which is $2 more than last month.
My husband thinks it might be the deep freeze - it's an older upright and the thermostat doesn't work right on it.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

Electrical rates all over the country (heck, world) are going up at alarming rates. Higher fossil fuel prices and inflation (along with record profits for fossil fuel companies and electric companies) are in diabolical collusion to steal your ever shrinking dollar. There isn't a lot that you can do. Unplug everything unnecessary all the time. This includes toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, clocks and clock radios (might be impractical), stereos, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, computers, and for God's sake ANYTHING with a transformer in it. You would notice a difference. For instance, I bet right now at your house that you have a cell phone charger plugged into the wall. Well, that transformer (the blocky thing that has the plug on it) draws power whether you have the cell phone charging or not.
It is difficult to discipline yourself and it is a real pain in the butt to have to reset stuff that doesn't have a battery in it for easy restoration after a power failure, but it can be done. How far are you willing to go with this?
Wind turbines, solar panels, radiative heating...they are all great, but the up front costs are pretty extreme. Grants can be had, but you are still going to be out real money even if you can secure one.
Don't forget the simple stuff. Turn off the lights if you aren't using them. Do you really need to turn on the air conditioner if a fan will do? I'm sure you can think of others.

those are kilowatts?? i'm unable to ascertain a freezer pulling that form of skill. it would generate lots warmth you will be conscious that. with regard to the only element I even have seen that ought to alter and pull that lots skill has been a warm water leak with an electric powered water heater. you have gotten the desire to make a itemizing of each and everything interior the domicile this is working and what you ought to have further provided that final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Like a pool or warm bath? A/C instruments? working a battery charger each and every of the time? Is your neighbor transforming into pot and stealing your juice? lol. good success.

Instead of going over all the appliances in the house, there are only a few items that pull more power then the others. Check all of those devices that heat or cool. Another tip: If you're unsure, check the manufacturers label on the back of the device. Look for the power rating. This will be in watts (w), which isn't any major worry, or kilowatts (Kw) which is normally common with an electric fire or heater. Those items with Kw on the label are the culprits.

I am also paying a higher electric bill. I found that the rates charged by the electric company are reason for the increase. They are way up from last year. Ask your electric provider how much they charge now per kwh as opposed to last year.

Make sure that you are unplugging all unnecessary appliances (like the cell phone charger when it's not charging, toaster) and turn off the computer at night and flip the switch on the surge protector (do likewise for the tv).

There's probably something wrong with one of your appliances, making it less energy efficient.
That deep freeze could easily be the problem. Older things aren't very energy efficient anyways, and if there's something wrong with it, it would be even worse.
