What is the best natural remedy for Ear Mites in Cats and Kittens?

Hello,

I live out in the country on a very big property, and we have aquired a good many cats. People drop their strays off and such. Unfortunately the area that I live in is not too kind to animals. People kill dogs and cats for fun around here, which is why the cats have a safe place to live on our property. There are about 30 or 40 wild cats and kittens total. They all live outside and stay around the property, so we feed them and all that. We are in the process of getting all the females spayed. So far about 8 of the females are fixed.

Anyways, during one of the trips to the vet we learned that the cats have ear mites. We have some medicine for it, but it costs nineteen dollars per cat. So that is alot of money for all the cats.

I am wondering if there is an herbal remedy or some other natural remedy for ear mites. Or, does anyone know where we can get cat medicine for very cheap??

Thanks in advance.

Update:

Just wanted to add that even the animal shelters around here are bad and treat animals horribly, that is why it is better for these animals to stay on our property. That way they won't be tortured, beaten, etc. They get medical care and food and love here, even though they live outside. Its a really backwards area we live in here. People are very very mean to animals here.

Use mineral oil. It takes a little longer to kill the mites but it does work. Use a Q-tip and rub it inside the ear. Or take a eye dropper and put one drop in and rub the kittys ears to spread it around.

Thank you for taking care of our feline friends.

Also, a quick remedy for fleas is rubbing alcohol. When I de-flea a kitten I use rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip to kill the flea. Works better than water because it kills the flea instantly.

I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but I wanted to tell you that I live in an area like that too. The shelters are terrible and most vets in my area are really cruel to the animals they treat.

There are a select few that are pretty good and some, for an extra fee will come to the house. Maybe you could ask your vet if he/she does that.

Ours charges $40 for the trip to the house in addition to the visit. We have 4 cats and it makes it well worth it for us. With the amount that you have on your property, it would be worth asking.

And bravo for you being such a friend to the suffering cat community!

first i want to applaud you for trying to keep the population down by fixing the cats and secondly i want to thank you for caring enough not to let them starve and suffer. Mineral oil is what you want to use to kill the mites. use a q tip and swab a little in there. It may take a few times.

    You could try this site:

I don't know if it'll work, but some of their suggestions could work...

Good Luck - it's so nice to hear about someone who's really taking extra steps to care for the animals!
