Do you give out Halloween candy to the youngsters that come to your door?

Some don't, but in this community, Halloween is still a big event. The fire company makes a haunted forest, they have contests, and at the end a cake auction. And kids still safely go door to door trick or treating.

Update:

Oh, Rhumba, that is terrible. Snow Hill, MD has a curfew for anyone over 12 on Halloween night. The police will pick them up if they are out, so it is all little kids trick or treating with responsible adults. Where I live, everyone knows everyone, so the teens wouldn't get away with any shenanigans.

Update 2:

Kuhnem--I am never at my house either, I help my son with his haunted house. But the kids all know that my candy can be found at our retired postmistress' house, waiting for them.

Yes, I love Halloween. It is one if not my favorite holiday. We decorate our yard with the most scary of things. Family members dress and we stay outside scaring the older one and being nice to the young ones. I have a ball. our house has become famous as we do give to the teens who have the guts to dress and come over to get the candy and we give out the larger candy bars. They just love it!!

Yes. It's a big thing where we live, which is largely a catholic neighbourhood.

Halloween is celebrated as a get to know you community event where everyone has fun. There are no unwelcome pranks and it is NOT about going against Christianity for us. A baptist pastor who was one of the first house builders in our estate of about 120 houses sends out a note to all households about the guidelines decided on (at a neighbourhood picnic) :

4.30 pm to 7.00 pm ; only go to the houses that have their driveway or porch light on ; children under eight to be accompanied by an adult.

Some people dress up their houses with fake spider webs and things and play haunted music.

It's a shame, but Halloween is fast becoming a thing of the past.

When I was growing up, we went with adults when we were little, alone in groups after about age 8 or 9, and then as young teenagers to "trick" more than for "treats". Still remember giggling and shushing each other as we TP'd the neighborhood "Grump's" house, who never gave out treats!

When my daughter was growing up the world had just started to get mean....razor blades in apples, drugs injected into candy, etc. I knew then that she would never have the same kind of fun I'd had growing up.

But, rather than trick or treating, we threw a Halloween party each year for the neighborhood kids and their parents. Decorate the house and backyard, had candy, games and prizes for the kids. We adults would usually BBQ and have a few beers. It was a great way to get to catch up with our neighbors (we all seemed to be two working parent families) and we still gave out treats to the few kids whose parents still allowed them out.

It's wasn't the same, but at least it was safe.

Here where we live we all get together and buy candy and decorate a few houses on each block, We have a little patrol to watch for cars and people that may not need to be there, everyone knows everybody and we believe in taking care of the kids during this night of fun

    Source(s): trick or treat

Yes, I have wonderful memories of going out with a group of neighborhood children and my parents to various houses in the neighborhood. It was something we looked forward to for the excitement as much as the candy. I still decorate and buy candy, but usually have only a handful of kids come by. I have never known of anyone's soul being destroyed by observing a simple Halloween custom.

Not any more. The last time, there were groups (gangs) of teenagers without costumes demanding the candy!

Our Moose Lodge makes a haunted house for the kids in the neighborhood (not just members) & I help with that.

Yes, as we always have. The little ones are the cutest.

Our town is small and the kiddies are safe, but most parents are with them.

Trick or treat is from 4:30 to 8:00 and then it's lights out.

The stores also give out treats.

We always play the movie Casper.

I do! I love seeing all the little kids dressed up- and the big ones too, i dont care! Unfortunately, there has been a massive decline in people who actually participate in trick or treating and even passing out candy. Each year there are less and less people. It bums me out ;(

It's a big deal in my neighborhood and we've always been known to give out great treats, but there are too many groups of teens who come around now, and most of them are strangers to the neighborhood. I just don't feel safe anymore. I turn out the lights and watch a video on Halloween.

We did when we lived in the city but now we do not live close to anyone here in the country. I miss it so much, one year I got dressed up, wig, costume and make-up and answered the door. A tiny girl was standing there all dolled up, as I bent to give her a treat, a flash went off. Her dad took our picture, my costume was not scary, I didn't want to frighten the small ones. Poppy
