where is the temp sending unit on a 62/327?
I am looking for the temp sending unit on my 1962 impala 327. When we bought it , it was missing. They changed a lot on this car and I am trying to get it back to original. but I can not find out where the temp sending unit went. I know on a 350 it is on the head buy #1 , and on some trucks that have them on the stat housing but the original housing does not have a place for one. Thank you for your help.

On a '62 S.B., either mid-block, or to the side of head, both on driver's side. Either is/both are concourse acceptable- mostly depended on shift that assembled chassis, and model.

If your '62 Impala has a gauge the sending unit should be in the driver's side cylinder head above and between #1 and #3 spark plugs, If it has just a red light, it could be in the same place or in the intake manifold just behind the thermostat housing. If it has a blue cold light and a red hot light (which were only on about 125 '62 Impalas) it has a dual sender in the left head. If some one has made changes to the engine or swapped out an engine, look at your original harness and the wire usually will point you to the right location due to its length and location.

Look on the drives side under the head in the middle of the block. There is a 1/4" pipe thread port with a plug in it. Remove the plug and install your temp sending unit there.

look on the thermostat housing to see if they put a plug in where it goes, and look on the intake.
