12 week ultrasound and prenatal appointment?
I'm 12 weeks, 4 days pregnant, and I'm going to the doctor today for my first ultrasound and second prenatal appointment. What can I expect? I'm a first time mom-to-be and I'm nervous about everything... I already had the pap smear and blood work at my first appointment, what can I expect this time?

Dont be nervous! Pretty much each month when you go... it will be the same thing basically. They will get a urine sample, answer any questions, get your weight and blood pressure, check baby's heartbeat, and ask you how you are doing. Sometimes they will take blood and sometimes they will do an ultrasound. At 12 weeks you will be able to hear and see the heart beat! Plus you can see your little gummy bear floating around! That is exciting!

Its funny I feel like I was just there yesterday. You will see the baby but it wont really look like a baby yet. I had ultrasounds every two weeks from the beginning up until 12 weeks because I am a surrogate and thats just how they monitor so I was able to see the growth. Since its your first ultrasound you'll see the "flicker of the heartbeat. It will be great!

At my 12 week appointment they did an ultrasound to check to see if the baby had Down Syndrome. They took some measurements of his neck and took a few drops of blood from my finger to send to the lab. Other than that they just weighed me, had me pee in a cup and checked my blood pressure.

They will make sure your baby is doing alright with the ultrasound. They will collect a urine specimen from you and answer your questions, if you have any. I always go to my doctor with questions. That way, I feel like I'm not in the dark about what I really want to know about the baby and how she's growing. Best of luck to you!

they'll probably just do the ultrasound, check your urine, and answer any questions you might have.
