Are Greenies Toxic To Cats?

Hi! I got some free Greenies with an on-line order from Foster & Smith. I gather they are supposed to clean kitty's teeth and improve breathe. But I read or heard somewhere that they aren't good for cats.

Ever use Greenies or know anything about them?

no they are not, just don't give them the dog's version. that version is either tiny little bits or just a plain cat treat which is actually much different than the dog's greenies which had a few gastrointestinal issues. greenies cat treats are one of the few that cats that hate treats normally actually LOVE (including my own!). you can request a catalog from drs foster and smith and they'll send you a free sample of the roasted chicken flavor. those are the most popular :)

    Greenies Bad For Cats

  • 1 decade ago

The first generation of greenies had a problem where if the cat/dog swallowed too much of it over a short period of time, it could cause a blockage of the intestinal tract. They reformulated them to stop that from happening, so should be perfectly safe.

There is a specific "cat greenie", which would not be harmful to cats. I would stay away from the first generation of them though. I would make sure the packaging and labeling is still intact and secure before feeding it to my pet, just to be sure.

i doubt it was the greenies. your cat probably got out and ate something bad out of a trashcan and got sick. sorry bout your cat though
