Do you feel that when a woman reaches a certain age, she should cut her hair short?

I'm 49 and have hair just past my shoulders and I am starting to wonder if it just makes me look like I am trying to look young, or if it's accepted in todays society.

No, I think you should only do what makes you feel good...I am almost 50 & just lazy & want to cut my hair but when I see that I look good sometimes I just think I would be so much plainer with it short...I think some older women are very pretty with long hair..do a search & look for Jane Seymour, Demi Moore, Cher, of course they can cut their hair & have long hair the next day but I think Jane Seymour keeps hers long.

I cut my hair short a couple of years ago and I'm 45. It was down past my shoulders and I just felt that with my facial features softening, my hair brought me down. While long hair symbolizes fertility and youth and sexiness on an older woman it can just seem a burden and age a woman. I cut my hair very short, very very short and I got so many compliments I was tired of people talking about my hair. It actually made me look younger, perky, sassy, and unburdend. I love it and will probably keep it short.

Well, to be honest, its up to you and what you prefer.

But i think that its way too far when woman have grey hair and its really long, this woman by me has it and its disgusting, and to be honest it is as if shes trying to make herself look younger, but its just made things worse.

49 is not bad, unless your hair is grey and its down to your bottom then i would recommend having it cut! But by the sounds of things, the length of your hair is fine, but if your really curious and want a cut, go a little shorter and see how things go!

There's no "should" here. If you like your hair, the way you look, why change. If you cut it, will you like the way you look more, or less? As far as "society", who are you talking about? I myself prefer long hair, but have seen attractive shorter hairstyles on some people. Age? This matters?

Look at Sally Fields. She is over 60 and looks gorgeous. I think most women who give up on having longer hair when they get older has something to do with hormones and thinner hair. As long as your hair looks great wear it to your shoulders.

    No!

One whom is older can keep long hair and have it look wonderful; with the proper cut and color it can be very fashionable. I do not feel that age determines hair style or cut.

You should wear what you feel looks good, and what you feel good in.

truthfully i ought to in no way make certain why maximum ladies persons of a undeniable age shrink their hair. i in my opinion think of its unflattering and has develop into function of older women persons. till your hair is thinning, shop it long. It would not look witchy. And if long hair seems unusual its because of the fact women persons's mothers have been telling them to shrink their hair after a undeniable for way too long and that they have got all been listening. Please do no longer hear.

I don't think that would make it seem like you're just trying to look young. I don't see too many older women with long hair but, I think maybe there's just because they don't want to have to deal with long hair since it's harder to take care of. I think it'd be fine if you kept your hair long. =]

I always prefer women with longer hair over shorter hair, no matter the age.

My wife is 62 and she has hair that is longer than yours. As long as you are happy with the way you look I think the rest of the world can go fish.
