Can You Spare A Though/Prayer For Obama's Sick Grandmother?

Given his mother and father are dead, the loss of his grandmother would be devastating.Obama told CBS television that he decided to make the exhausting journey half-way across the Pacific to see Dunham -- nicknamed "Toot" -- despite the crush of campaign events as he "got there too late" when his mother Ann Dunham died.

"We knew that she wasn't doing well but, you know, the diagnosis was such where we thought we had a little more time and we didn't. And so I want to make sure that I don't -- I don't make the same mistake twice," Obama said.

"My grandmother's the last one left. She has really been the rock of the family, the foundation of the family. Whatever strength, discipline that I have, it comes from her."

Dunham is reportedly suffering from a broken hip and generally failing health.

Regardless of your political stripe, can you at least keep her in your prayers?

Thank you for the warm hearted and compassionate question you have posted here. I have had Obama and his grandmother and their whole family in my thoughts since the news broke that she was ailing. I understand that she has been following his campaign very closely, and I can only imagine how proud she is of him.

To have her so seriously ill now, when her beloved grandson appears to be on the verge of making history, is very emotional and makes me want to ask the cosmos to hold off on taking her back until she can see the culmination of all his efforts.

I don't know, none of us knows, how bad off she is, and I know that the good people of our country and of the world all hope that she is not so ill that she can't pull through to not only see him elected, but also that she can see him inaugurated in January.

I read you question and almost cried. I have come to know Senator Obama through his campaign as a wonderful, warm and intelligent dedicated family man, and she is the anchor of their family. She had a large part in raising him.

I stand with you and all the good people who say please, keep her here with us on planet Earth a while longer.

    Sincerely,

    Lady Morgana

I lost my grandmother not long after she broke her hip. Statistically, MOST elderly patients with a broken hip will die within the next 12 months. Not all of them, obviously (Mrs. Dunham has already had one broken hip), but significantly more than 50%.

No matter whether a voter loves him or reviles him, right now he's just a man who may be seeing his grandmother for the last time. And she's just a grandmother who knows she is probably saying goodbye to the grandson she spent several years raising.

I hope that she makes it to see her grandson become the next President of the United States Of America.

What a proud moment it will be for her beloved grandson.

I pray she lives to see this historic victory.

    Sure thing.

Many ill people are sent home. My uncle died of cancer and he went home when he was gravely ill. They didn't keep him because there was nothing that they could do for him and he wanted to be at home. Nothing unusual about that.

Yes, of course. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Obama family.

Of course. We all wish her well and gladly pray for her recovery and offer our sympathy to Barrack.

That being said, I do have to wonder one thing. I first heard of her condition at least four days ago and the News has been reporting how Obama is rushing to her side. Well, he has been rushing to her side for nearly a week. What is taking him so long?
