So Franzen is out 3 to 4 weeks and Leino is taking his place. Predictions?
How do you think this will play out? Will Leino put up decent numbers? Can he win himself a permanent roster spot? If so, who gets scratched to make room after Franzen returns?
Im pretty excited to see him play in the NHL. I saw him in a few training camp and preseason games and he looked pretty good. I honestly dont think he will stay with the team after Franzen returns, even if he puts up decent numbers. Detroits offense is doing well right now but they are struggling on D, which isnt Leinos best attribute (he also isnt the greatest skater). Regardless, I think he is an NHL calibre player and Im looking forward to seeing him play in an NHL game that actually matters.

I'm stoked to see him play in the NHL but not so stoked about what it took... I mean Franzen was again on a hot streak which never died down since last year and you have to question if he will be the same after his knee injury.. he is The Mule though... so you never know...
I'm really glad Leino's coming up though... he had a dynamite preseason and I was hoping he would make the starting roster... I think maybe he can actually play on the 2nd line...ok maybe not that great, but the 3rd... I just wanna see him play again!
I think Leino could win a permanent roster spot, but the thing is, he's only on a 1 year deal... so if they wanna deal someone to give him a spot... they have to question if he will re-sign (and God I hope he does)... I think they should give him a permanent roster spot while trading Huds or Sammy... or send Kopecky down...

He is capable of putting up good numbers. He likely starts on the 3rd line with Cleary moving into Franzens spot but he has scored 4 goals in 4 games with the Griffins before he was called up (including 2 last night). If he shows well in his first couple games I imagine he sticks until Franzen returns and if he does struggle on the defensive end then look for the Wings to bring up Helm (if they go with the speed guy) or Abdelkader (if they want the more physical guy, he has netted 3 in G.R.and racked up a fighting major). Because of cap numbers I think the Wings will send him down once Franzen returns, he carries a higher NHL contract than Helm or Abdelkader. But if he does well during his time I am sure they will re-think their situation and keep him, after all they have proven that they will keep guys that perform.

I think he will do well. The Wings are so stacked w/ talent that someone else will just pick up the slack. If Leino can't hack it they can just call up Helm or Abdelkader or even Ritola.
Whoever is there will be sent back to Grand Rapids unless someone else is injured.
