Covering a Tattoo with a tattoo?

I have a tatto about 10x10cm on my shoulder blade, I want something new. Anyone know anything about covering them with another tattoo? Is it easy? What are the requirements? Any comments thoughts...

I had a friend once who covered a tattoo on his arm with another tat. The new tattoo covered the old one completely, you couldn't even tell. He said it did hurt more and for longer than a fresh tattoo... maybe because tattooed skin is scar tissue? Not sure the reason though I do know it is way cheaper and not as painful as laser removal, which does leave a trace of the tat behind.

It is not always possible, but it's best for you to go and chat with the tattooist so they can have a look at what you want to cover up.

Colours and size are always something that needs to be considered.

Your cover up is going to have to be a much larger tattoo than what you have now but I've seen some REALLY good cover ups.

    Good luck :)

lol the other person didn't understand, your best bet is to go to a tattoo artist and ask, it all depends on the color of your tattoo that you have now as far as colors, black, or what not, they can also you with suggestion on what to get to cover it with things you are interested, but yes it can be done, and most of the time you can't even tell

yeah you can totally cover up a tattoo with a new one

its way easy I had a star and covered it with cherrys and i just love it

all though the tattoo artist may ask you to go a little bit bigger but u can cover it with just about anything.

I depends...is the tattoo you want to cover colorful? It would be easier to cover a black tattoo. You might want to just go to the tattoo place and ask for suggestions and show them what you want covered.

I had my husband's well ex husbands name done on my ankle BIG MISTAKE and the J in Johsia was way darker then the rest so it was hard to cover but we went about it this way lol I got a pink floyd changing flower hence the changes motto lol she(the artist) placed the tat over the original so it was in the middle of the flower and first did the outline ofcourse and filled it in with purple then went over it with pink if you look very closely you can still see the J but it is blended in and colored in a way that just makes it look like it is part of the flower. Good luck & I hope that the outline is not so dark that it is hard to cover my best advice would be to go talk to the artist and see what their ideas on blending it into the original tat will be

i guess it depends on how much detail is in your tattoo and if its colored, etc..

simple designs are easier to cover.

go to your tattoo artist and tell him what you're thinking about and he'll tell you what he thinks and give you some suggestions.

light colored tattoos are easy to color, it sounds like yours is pretty small, should be easy to cover..

just a note to anyone who ever wants to get their boyfriend or girlfriends name tattood on them.. use baby blue colored ink.. it is the easiest to cover/ get removed.

It really depends on what colour it is and what colour you plan to get. I had one covered by another and thankfully it turned out really well. There is no trace.
