How do you feel as an American about this?
In 1960, the question that loomed over the campaign was whether a Catholic could get elected president. Voters answered yes. Nearly five decades later, that milestone is a mere footnote to the Kennedy presidency.
The question this time was whether a black man could win the presidency. Forty percent of all white Americans hold a negative view of blacks, according to polling by The Associated Press, and two-thirds of white Democrats express racial misgivings.
Yet on Election Day, Obama won more than four of every 10 white votes. Americans said yes, we can overcome our original sin.
Fifty years from now, President Obama will be remembered for more than the color of his skin.
And this moment will never be forgotten.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's thinking we were ALL equal - I am so sad and ashamed such a majority still has issues with anyone unlike themselves. I pray President Obama will bring the changes we need and squash old ideals!
MY Children are partially American Indian and they are almost ashamed to put this on college applications or anything else. It is not "normal" in America, in the 21st century, to be anything but WHITE in many places. It breaks my heart! I am white, but I should have no special treatment for anything. My husband is descended from Revolutionary War Heroes - so what?! I celebrate with my African American brothers and sisters in saying we have come a long way and I was supporting with you all! I am sorry Barack's grandma missed seeing this!

We need to recognize individuals for their achievements - not the color of their skin!

I agree.
I believe the first change that needs to be made is to get rid of the antiquated affirmative action programs. We should not be coddling people and placing them in jobs or giving them scholarships, merely because of the color of their skin. That is racist.
Another thing that needs to change is how people with darker pigmented skin accept themselves. Where did we come-up with the term African-American? How about just, American. (I never hear anyone talk about German-Americans or Slovak-Americans or French-Americans. It's time for the black race to stop segregation.)

For the millionth time it's not about the color of his skin!
It's about his anti-American and socialistic agenda. Why does he want to be president of a country he hates? What's his motivation?
