I am I repressing a memory?
I didn't realize that my stepdad was actually a step until I was 5 or and I found a birth announcement with a name other than his on it.
From that point on I was under the impression my Bio dad just ignored my existence after I was born.
Recently, however, I was told he actually babysat until I was about 9 months to a year and stopped by for a (very) few short visits until I was three.
I don't remember any of this at all which is understandable since at this point I am 21, but I would think at only 5 or 6 I would remember this dude.
Could this be a repressed memory or is it completely ridiculous to think I would have remembered even at 5 or 6.
I guess I should add I have always thought I was repressing something because despite living a really great life I have always been mood, suffering from clinical depression and anxiety, and addiction issues. I just have always had the feeling someone is off and wanted to do hypotherapy even.

Children don't generally form long-term memories until age 3 or 4, so it would actually be unusual if you did remember visits from your bio dad, even when you were still little.
As for the repressed memory part, the evidence for repressed memories is iffy at best. They have been shown time and again to be based in large part on the suggestions of the therapists. This isn't to say that repressed memories never get uncovered. But if you were younger than 3 there's just no memory to uncover, and you'd probably be better off trying other things first.

You wouldnt have known that the man who was visiting you was your dad and especially as it wasnt often, you wouldnt have paid any attention to him and thats why you cant remember him. It makes me mad that guys can just leave a child, I hope youve got a great stepdad and thats all that matters.

I also think that one cannot remember the incidents as young as 5 or 6.
Such kind of thinking comes because of some impurities and imperfections in our body and mind. If the impurities and imperfections are cleared, it will be alright.
