My cat is losing hair any ideas?

My female tuxedo cat has been loosing hair for about a year or so and its happening all around her sides. I have given her baths, changed her food and liter and still haven't noticed any change. She is not that old I had her since i was 13 and so its been about 6 years since I got her and she was a kitten then. She still acts like normal and shows no sign of being sick or weak. Any ideas I should try would be great =). Thanks

Common signs and symptoms of cat hair loss and cat skin problems to look out for.

This list is to give you some idea of the range of skin problems your cat could suffer from. It shouldn't be used for diagnosis as these are just for example. Always consult your vet if you are concerned about your cats health and wellbeing.

Cat hair loss.- Often in clumps exposing bald spots can be from over grooming due to stress or itching. If the hair loss is more all over it may indicate a hormone imbalance or other reason.

Cat hair loss in oval or round patches is often a sign of ringworm which is very contagious and most common in kittens and long haired breeds. If your cat has developed bare, red patches these should be treated to avoid infection. One holistic treatment for this is Only Natural Pet Herbal Ointment for Dogs and Cats.

Excessive scratching or biting from itching and irritation.- So many possible causes including parasites like mites and fleas, or allergic reactions to food or chemicals.

Inflamed skin, red and hot. Lumps or swollen areas.- These can be with or without pain, and can be caused by abscesses, tumours or cysts.

Scaly, flaky or crusty skin, sometimes with white skin flakes in the coat. - This can be from fungal infections or fur mites.

Bad odour.- Often from bacterial or yeast infections.

Weeping areas.- From inflamed and broken skin or excessive scratching.

Bleeding or pus exuding.- From an abscess or deep bacterial infection.

Spots or a rash.- From insect bites or an allergic reaction.

Dull, lifeless or matted coat. - Can indicate an underlying medical or nutritional problem.

Scabs. Black specs in the coat or bedding. - Often flea dirts.

Orange specs moving around on the feet, face and ears. - Harvest mites.

The list could go on and on!! You should check with your vet to make sure your cat is happy and healthy.

Well, I would cut out the baths. They might be removing skin oils that she needs. Cats are always giving themselves baths, so extra ones are really not needed except in specific occasions, such as getting into something foul.

Often, allergy problems show up in a cat with fur problems. But as far as being sick, cats are very stoic and don't show problems. In the wild, if they did, it would be fatal to them.

Consult with a vet, or even better yet, a vet dermatologist. I have given you a link to find specialists.

We have 1 cat a Persian and he scratches so bad he pulls out his hair and that is due to fleas. If you try a flea bath be careful around the face and don't get a flea collar they are worthless.

I would take her to the vet and see what they say. I know in humans low thyroid leads to hair loss and animals can have a thyroid problem too.

Hypothyroidism, or low thyroid function, is a silent epidemic, according to many functional medicine doctors. How to cure hypothyroidism naturally https://tr.im/9gjRP

People can suffer for years with symptoms that our conventional medical system frequently doesn’t know how to treat because complaints seem scattered or vague and often there is no pill for the ill(s).

What’s worse, in most cases, hypothyroidism isn’t rooted in a thyroid problem in the first place. It’s rooted in an immune system gone awry, but most doctors don’t test for the antibodies that show the presence of autoimmunity.
