When I worked at the humane society, we always advised adopters to have one litter box per cat. Well there's probably not room for four in your house, but you could probably manage two. Cats like to have space. I have two cats and two litter boxes and all is well. Also, make sure you occasionally dump out your litter boxes and wash them (in the tub or wash basin) and refill them with new litter. Do this 3 or 4 times a year to keep the smell down. Even if it doesn't bother you, it is probably bothering your cats. Good luck!

I'm dealing with a similar problem, except my cat keeps urinating in the same spot...my bed! The vet told me the best thing to do is make the spot unattractive to your pet. You need to make sure you completely eliminate the odor in the spot your pet is going in. Next, you should try to use an odor deterrent, such as lemon air freshener or strong smelling soap (cats generally don't like the smell of citrus.) Hope this helps!
