Contaminated water because of fires?

I've been watching the news on the fires going on in and around Brea and Yorba Linda. So i left the room and when i walked back in all i heard was something like "...water may not be safe to drink. You should boil the water even if it's from the tap" I tried looking online for more info but i can't find anything. Just wanted to know if it's for all homes or just those close to the fires and maybe i heard wrong and they were just squeezing in other news or just assuming about the water. If it helps i heard it on Channel 9 kcal. The funny thing is i was just about to make a cup of noodle soup right now...Thanks!

Update:

Thanks so much for the answers!! Also, thanks to the well-wishers. I really hope that this all ends soon...

As far as i know the only areas where you must boil your water is in hidden valley regions but if your unsure its always better to boil your water or drink from water bottles if they are available

There shouldn't be any boil water order unless the supply has been breached, which I haven't heard. You may have caught the tail end of an item about Montecito. They have had several supply issues up there, including broken mains. That would lead to contamination.

To be safe, call your city's info. line, or check their website. Any boil order will be posted there.

I Live in North Hollywood. The fires seem intense, I supose that its best to do what the news recommends I mean I rather drink boiled water rather than be hospitalized for drinking water.

The cool thing is my water is imported from a secret lake in Egypt

i live in santa barbara where we are having fires too and we have some of the same warnings in places. its because some pipes may have burst during the fire letting contaminates in so if your in an area that suggests boiling your water then i would do so. just boil water in a kettle and add it to your cup of noodle.

I am not sure. One of my sisters lives in Brea near the 57 and she was forced to leave the house with her two small girls and two large dogs. Good luck to you
