Did the Giants really sign Jeremy Affeldt?

There is no report about it on espn or mlb but I just saw one on the Giants actual website. If this is true can someone please confirm it for me? Also, if it is true do you like this move and do you think it is good for the Giants?

it's true and a great move. keith law of espn has affeldt as the 15th best FA and ranked ahead of guys like fuentes and krod. affeldt had a breakout year last year and the giants got him for a fair price. 2 yrs 8 mill. it's a good signing and will help strengthen what was a weak point, the bullpen

    Giants Sign Jeremy Affeldt

By Tim Dierkes [November 17, 2008 at 1:46pm CST]

According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, the Giants signed lefty reliever Jeremy Affeldt to a two-year deal. He was a Type B free agent, so the Reds will receive a sandwich pick for him in the June draft.

I'm surprised Affeldt didn't pursue a closing job; ESPN's Keith Law ranked him as the second best reliever on the market (ahead of Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes). Affeldt seemingly overplayed his hand as a free agent last offseason, so maybe that was a factor.

As a giants fan I would have liked the Giants to sign a right-hander like Cruz, because we already have Hinshaw and Taschner as the lefties. We need another right hander to fill Tyler Walkers spot as the set-up man. Hopefully Affeldt is good

Apparently so. It's on MLB.com. I'm a Dodgers fan, so I don't like this move. But it's a good signing, one that will help the Giants.

Yes, it's being reported by the Mercury News, it's a two year deal but that's all we know right now.
