My father has a large lump on the back of his head just above his neck. The whole right side of his head and ?
ear hurt. Also, the lump is not quite as hard as a cyst and it has started to form a scab, even though he hasn't tried to drain it. What concerns me is that he hasn't felt well since he discovered the lump a week ago. I'm just wondering what the lump might be. Im assuming it might be something to do with his lymph nodes. I'm asking here because I can't get him to go to the doctor. He is 77 years old.

This sounds like a infected hair follicle. Lymph nodes will swell but will not form a head or scab. Try hot moist compresses several times a day. This may help, but he probably needs antibiotics and maybe it might need draining. Either way you need to see a doctor

If i were you I would make him go to the doctor, or go to the doctor with pictures and explain how it looks and that it hurts. I am not sure what it could be. But you may want to take precautions with so many people getting tumors these days. Hope my advice helps!

You have to take him to the doctor... this could be very serious! My dad had a similar thing, but his turned out to be an infected cyst. He had to get it removed immediately before the infection spread.
To ease the pain, try putting ice on it. Maybe try neosporin.

It might be some kind of tumor or it could be cancer. It's impossible to diagnose someone based on a description over the internet. Please take him to a doctor.
