Why is cohabitating threaten military life?

Seems that once you're married you're "in" like you get privileges like receiving information when hubby is away, medical, base benefits, festivities, etc. If you're not married you get nearly completely shut out of things. It's very dramatic.

Due to privacy acts of the government information can only be released to actual family members.

Medical, commissary, and PX priveleges are only available to immediate family members due to laws to protect tax payer dollars.

As for festivities often many people unrelated and friendly to a soldier have joined in post activities, but do to security of operations passes are often required to be applied for.

Even certain aspects of family (married) life threaten soldiers. Anything outside soldiering that can threaten focus on accomplishment of mission and result in the soldier being distracted at critical times, which in turn can result in loss of life.

Marriage is often sacred and vows are taken that may assist the soldier in focusing on things that are inportant to soldiering and lessen the effect of what often occurs in non-contractual relationships. This is not to say that certain relationship difficulties do not occur in contractual relationships.

It's a legal thing. If the military does not "have" to give you something, it won't. There are regulations requiring that spouses be given certain benefits and priveledges. There is also the aspect of abuse. If a soldiers 'girlfriend' or 'fiance' could recieve benefits, then soldiers looking for a quick buck could get a 'temporary' girlfriend and split the benefits with them.

Another reason is that a married soldier is worth more to the military, simply because they have more to lose if they mess up. A single soldier can be disciplined, yelled at, put on extra duty, and still not reform. Even a slight mention of a reduction in pay to a married soldier gets them in line very quickly.

Is there any other company or organization out there who would release information, pay or anything else to a girlfriend or boyfriend. NO. They are under no obligation to do so either whether you have been dating for 2 weeks or 10 years. \The military is making sure that no personal information or command information is given to the wrong people. It can also be called PERSEC (Personal Security) and OPSEC (Operational Security). How can they verify that you are actually the girlfriend or boyfriend and no a stalker or even a terrorist, they cannot.

one of the "perks" of being married. do you realize how many people would just live together just to get benefits. "oh yea i live with him,,,i get the benefits". sorry dont work that way,,,if you want benefits you need to be married. too many people would take advantage of it. there are rules for reasons. to be "in" the loop you need to be married. if you want the benefits,,get married. same way in "civilian" life,,,you do not get health insurance from the dude you are living with,,,you need to be married.
