FURMinator. Have you successfully groomed a .......?

..... Long/Semi Long Haired Cat with it?

What was the end product like?

Did it reduce dander around the house?

More importantly, was it comfortable for longer haired cats without causing drag on the hair shafts and skin?

I'm asking as a long standing and happy user of the large slicker brushes on my semi long haied cats and was interested in the comfortability, safety and success of this grooming product.

Short haired cat owners opinions are more than welcome too as I have one DSH also.

Many thanks.

Update:

Thanks for your input all. I wanted to get other YA users' experiences of this product because it sounds wonderful. But, watching a demo video of the Furminator on this link -

http://www.furminator.com/shedless.cfm

the amount of dander/undercoat that was being removed in one go was a little worrisom for me. Although, the idea of keeping knotting down by gently removing some undercoat on the knicker bockers, tummy and in the underside of the legs did appeal to me as all three of my Maine Coons can get clumpy at times in these areas and I fancied the idea of the seeming ease of use of the Furminator for these areas. All three enjoy being bathed, groomed and blow dried and a new grooming tool was tempting.

I use one on both my DSHs and one of the longhair cats I pet-sit for - it is miraculous in getting out loads of underfur that you couldn't even imagine was there! It's important, though, not to comb too hard with it as that can cause skin irritation and flaking.

Is it possible to love a Furminator? <3

We have groomed our Maine Coon/Norweigan Forest Cat with it.

She is one big tangle when she gets the beggars lice stickers in

her fur in our walks. The Furminator is the only thing we have

found that does not pull and yank, and gets the stickers out.

It is easy once you are used to it, and she is calmer as she knows

    she won't get pulled at.

The slicker brushes are still my reccommendation for the DSH's.

It gets the undercoat just fine, and that sharp edge isn't needed.

I guess you could say it was successful. Poppy doesn't hate it but it's not her fave tool either. She doesn't like it used on her rear end. I don't think it works much better than a flea comb.

In fact in one sense it's worse. The flea comb is small and easy to use. The F is heavy and unwieldly. Both require you to use your other hand to hold their skin in place because it does pull a lot. It's easier to do that with the smaller flea comb.

The shorter teeth don't hold as much hair as the flea comb either so there's lots of stopping to defur.

    It does nothing for dander.

I've seen this product in action. If your cat likes to be brushed, then he/she will love this. It doesn't hurt the animal at all and the brush combs both the top and undercoat. It reduces shedding quite a bit. Good luck & hope I helped!

I have cat with 3 inch long hair. It is ridiculous and it gets everywhere. I bought a home grooming kit and tried it myself. What a mistake. My cat looked like a mess when I was done. It took hours and he was only partially shaved. I have taken him twice to a groomer and have been really pleased both times. I only do it in the summer. My cat seems to like it afterwards as well because he can "feel" our hands more when we pet him.
