Will Bill Clinton run for Hillary's Vacant Senate Seat?

The rumors are abounding on the News Channels, that when Hillary Clinton takes over her new role as Secretary of State and her Senate seat in vacated, her husband will run in a Special Election to fill the vacancy.

Some believe that Clinton will jump at the chance and his election is just about assured, since Hillary herself was well-liked by her constituents and Bill Clinton has the advantage of the memories of economic prosperity during his Presidency.

Do you think Bill Clinton should try to run for the Senate, which will soon be vacated by his wife? It would not be the first time a vacant seat has been taken over by a spouse. When Sonny Bono died in a skiing accident, his Senate seat was filled by his wife, Mary.

I think it is interesting speculation but I seriously doubt that he will do that. But anything is possible... It just seems that a former president actually has more power abroad than a sitting senator. I think Bill Clinton would serously miss his influence over foreign matters. He likes the attention abroad too much.

He might take her seat temporarilly until they can find a candidate to run in the next election but I really doubt it.

I think political pundits create news stories just for the buzz and this would be one of those situations.

Vacated seats taken by spouses are usually in the case of death, like you said about Sonny Bono, or in 2000 when Gov. Mel Carnahan (of Missouri) died while running for Senator, in a plane crash in October and his wife Jean, was appointed to the seat after he was elected a couple of weeks later in November.

But I think it would be different in this case, and frankly, while I thought it was strange for Illinois born, Arkansas and Washington living Hillary to run in New York; I would think it even more strange for Bill to run from New York even if he does live there now. He just does not sound like a New Yorker, somehow.

Edit: Sorry, Patrick. Andrew Johnson, not Andrew Jackson was impeached. He was VP when Lincoln was killed. He did not go on to any other office, but Andrew Jackson, who was not impeached may have.

The special election won't happen for 2 years and I doubt that Bill would run for a Jr Senator position. In the meantime the NY Gov. will appoint Hillary's replacement. I also doubt that it will be Bill but stranger things have happened.

It would fit perfectly there have only been 2 president that have been impeached, Democrat Bill Clinton and Democrat Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson went on to become a Senator and Clinton will also. If Clinton can shame and screw up the country some more he will continue to do it. Of course you do realize it's clearly against the constitution for Hillary to join Obama's administration due to voting to increase the pay for the cabinet positions though she's a Democrat so the constitution is just an obsticle to be cast aside.

Do you relatively believe this entire nonsense, or are you only spouting it in here in hopes of persuading the completely gullible? No baby-kisser in his / her applicable ideas would ever decide for Jodi Arias as a working mate, as you knew once you published this. So why submit it? Yeah, yeah, you hate Hillary. properly, it is your applicable as a Republican TROLL. and you at the instant are not the only one. yet can no longer you arise with a extra advantageous attack on her than this one? to respond to your bogus question, i'd say the respond is "NO." no longer till Hillary has a suicidal desire to lose the election by using a extensive margin. Which Hillary does not seem to have, no count what else you could think of roughly her & her politics. -- democratic socialist

Why would he? He was President of the United States (he made a sham of that while he was, but he was a POTUS)... that would be taking a step down. Just like someone asking yesterday about Sarah Palin's possibilities for running for that vacant seat. That would be taking a step down for her, too!

Senators don't do ANYTHING! They don't RUN anything. They are a body of people that show up to vote, "present, yea, nay". Why in the world would anyone strive to become a Senator???

Bill's pulling in about $10 million a year, why would he want a job that pays 250k?

Why not? He's every bit the New Yorker that Hillary is (isn't). He can borrow her carpetbag.

No, I doubt it. Maybe the governor will appoint him, though.

I doubt it. Why would he want to?
