The vets will be able to give you or sell you a cat collar. They are called "elizabethan" collars (think big ruffs round the neck in costumes from hundreds of years ago in Europe). Cats hate them at first - walking backwards to try and get out of it etc - but soon calm down, and it relaxes them eventually.

My cat had one of these on for about a week whilst an ear infection was being treated, and although she was not impressed, it did work.

If you get one, let him have a few hours off every day when you can see him (in just one room maybe) so he can still have a wash - I had no idea how stinky cats get if they can't clean themselves!

Where is the wound? If it's on the head or neck you may be able to purchase a collar specially designed for animals so they won't like or scratch their head/ears/etc.

If it is on the body, you'd have to wrap it so it cannot be accessed. But, if the wound has already scabbed, the cat will probably leave it alone and it will heal naturally.

Firstly you should have you vet take a look, he might need a course of antibiotics.

Clean the wound with warm salty water
