How do you get a cat to poop in the litter box again? ?

My cat had diarrhea for a week. The vet said that it was probably brought on by the stress of her dental cleaning the day before it started. She had trouble making it to the litter box on time, though she tried. I can understand that. But I don't understand why she's not using it now that it's not diarrhea anymore. I just had to clean poop off my couch. Nature's Miracle cleaner is a godsend. Anyway, any ideas?

Its sad to say but I think that your cat has related the pain of diarrhea with the littler box and steers clear of it. Try getting a totally new litter box and putting the new littler box in a totally different area and USE totally different cat litter like if you use clay then use scoop or use that yesterdays news litter, something she can use now that she is getting better.. GOOD LUCK

She might be associating her litter tray with feeling ill - cats do that sort of thing. She might also still be smelling the area where she went when she had diarrhoea. I'm not sure what Nature's Miracle is but, if it is scented, the smell can sometimes attract the cat back to it. You should clean the area with biological washing liquid as the enzimes should take away the smell completely.

Try putting extra trays down in different locations. If she poos somewhere that she shouldn't, pick it up and place it in a clean litter tray. She should get the idea soon and then, if you want to, you can gradually start decreasing the number of boxes and also gradually move them (just a foot at a time) to the place you want them to be.

Not using the litter box usually means something is physically wrong with a cat. But, In your case it could also be behavioral. Your cat may have worms or another disease, infection, or something else. You should bring her to your vet and get her checked out. You could ask if they could check a stool sample.

If nothing is wrong with your cat, you should see if anything is wrong with her litter box. It's possible that she's gotten into the habit of not using it. If you see her pooping in an inappropriate place, pick her up (when she's done) and carry her to her litter box. Set her down in it and walk away. Make sure it doesn't smell too bad and is away from her food or something like a window with cars whizzing by that might spook her. Try washing the litter box, adding another litter box in another spot to see if there are problems accessing it, and try changing the litter. You could try cat attract litter that's made for kittens who are being litter box- trained, and also she may have started to dislike the texture or scent (if it's a scented kind) of her litter.

    Good luck!

Cats can be a little neurotic and lots of people have issues with their cat not using the litter box. Have the vet evaluate her for any GI issues...if he says she's ok it most likely will be behavioral, and you may need to consider "kitty prozac" (yes, I'm quite serious). Discuss the use of this medication with the cat's doctor and ask if he has any other recommendations.

Dental cleanings aren't cheap...so your vet owes you at least a little personal Q & A time over the phone or in person.

    Best of luck!!!

Lock him in a room with food water and litter box and toys check up on him sometimes leave him like this for two to three days I did it to my cat she hasn't done it since or try moving his litter box in a more private place that is also what we did
