is this just another broken obama promise?

An Associated Press review of more than 400 members of Obama's transition team identified at least 34 who have registered in recent years to lobby government officials on behalf of clients or employers — some as recently as this summer. The AP's review represents the most comprehensive examination to date of people working on Obama's incoming administration.

Buddha_13 makes a VERY good point: "I've never heard Barack Obama say that he will make sure his transition team and insignificant 'team players' will be totally sterile from lobbyists."

Read your answers here...These people who support Obama and voted for him have NO IDEA what he said...I don't know how they can watch him with such admiration but have no clue what's coming out of his mouth.

For Buddha_13, and all of Obama's supporters who don't pay attention to him, THIS is what he said:

At one of Obama’s infamously fiery campaign speeches directed at lobbyists—“you won’t find a job in my White House” and “you won’t run my White House!” There was also a detailed promise that appointees could not work on regulations and contracts related to their employment during the prior two years.

Here he is saying it (it's near the end) :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j81lWY-VIs

For all of you who don't get it, it's not about him hiring lobbyists...It's about him so passionately swearing that he would NOT hire lobbyists, that they would NOT be a part of his white house (his words), that we need a "change" from those things because they're corrupt...And yet, he's doing it now.

It IS possible to break a promise, even before he is sworn in as president, and he IS doing it...Open your eyes.

If he is saying now that it is IMPOSSIBLE to fill his team without lobbyists (as some of you have also claimed), then why would he swear that he wouldn't just weeks ago?...Was he not intelligent enough to realize that what he was saying was impossible?...He was trashing everyone else for doing what he is doing now, He slammed Hillary AND McCain for doing it, so he must not have realized that he had no clue what he was talking about...Is it just because he's so inexperienced?

Look past the surface...It isnt so much about what he's doing...It's about doing so many things that he said he would NOT do, and 'changing his mind' about doing the things he said he WOULD do.

When people bring up a RELEVANT issue about Obama's actions, policies or words, his supporters have no idea what people are talking about...It's scary how uninformed his supporters are, yet they voted for him anyway.

If they wanted to know what Obama was doing, they would read things like this (non-biased AP news)...But, I seriously doubt that they will:

@Brave New World: "Washington runs on lobbying in case you didn't know that."

Obama didn't know that either...Doesn't that concern you at all?

The 3000 tx credit became a stupid thought from the initiating. It expenses hundreds of greenbacks to hire somebody, you have their income, coaching, coverage expenses, ssi taxes, blah blah blah. $3000 tax credit became insane. that's not sufficient incentive for me to hire somebody. the explanation the oil businesses made lots funds is using the inventory marketplace, no seems to appreciate how any of this works. in case you very own a business enterprise, and it i publicly traded on the inventory marketplace, and the inventory marketplace is going up so your product is now properly worth a good purchase greater imaginary funds, than you're making a ton of money. that's what occurred with the oil businesses. WE desperate A BARREL OF OIL could fee OVER a hundred greenbacks. THEN the fee of THE gas on the PUMP WENT UP. there have been no certainly motives for the upward push. it became a futures marketplace. wow i will't clarify any of this. Obama is slowly understanding that HOLY CRAP, capitalism works. edit JULES: WTF ARE YOU speaking approximately! Everyone is going over every little thing Obama does because he is the first African American President. But, if you were to look at the other Presidents, you would find that they have just as many former lobbyists in their teams as well.

And, all of those people have signed sworn affidavits that they will not lobby for anyone while they are members of the transition team.

Plus, until Obama has been sworn in and been in office for a while, you can't say he's broken any promises. The pundits are very impressed with the choices he has been making for his cabinet. So, let's just wait and see what happens during his first 100 days, okay? Every other President has had at least that much consideration.

President Elect Obama has a lot of people who still are in the old style way of doing business in Washington DC..I cannot see how the US is going to *change* when you have that kind of thinking going on in his cabinet and in his transition team..but I guess we will have to wait and see?

    34 out of 400? That's all?

Washington runs on lobbying in case you didn't know that.

To find that many who weren't involved in lobbying at some point must have been a Herculean task!

Another reason I think he will be a great President!

When the man cons his way into office by telling people what they want to hear, you could say that he will not do as he says. His policies will not hold!! I will probably get thumbs down but I don't mind

I've never heard Barack Obama say that he will make sure his transition team and insignificant 'team players' will be totally sterile from lobbyists.

I've heard him make many many claims that he is, which he has stayed pretty close too.

Who cares anyways, at least the lobbyists hanging around the dems are out for the common good of America, such as better insurance, and hiring the minimum wage.

How can Obama break any of his promises--he is black! He never really said he would take Federal matching election money--he never said Hillary was not well experienced in foreign affairs--he never knew J Wight was a hate filled racist or Bill A was a terrorist or Rezko made shady land deals...Nope he has always been truth-full.

  • 1 decade ago

No, Obama never promised not to engage in crony capitalism. It is just the democrats who took it at face value and got duped.

Change, or just the same bedroom politics?

    lol @ dems

The man who wants to leave Iraq immediately and close down GITMO immediately is saying he's not sure he can do it anymore.

How come he hasn't mentioned universal healthcare in months? Oh yeah, was just riding Hillary's coattails

His words mean nothing to me
