What is the known percentage of Pedigree to Non Pedigree cats in the US?

In Australia?

In Canada?

Over the past 3 years, in the UK, it has been found that cats out number dogs as the number one pet by 1 million (7 million cats to 6 million dogs) and that 92% of cats are Non Pedigree ( registration of Pedigree cats has declined even though Pedigree cat breeding and ownership has increased, so true numbers may vary slightly).

Update:

LOL I couldn't agree more Willow's Slave!!! :)

Update 2:

Does anyone roughly know where I might find governmental/rescue/cat club/college statistics or polls?

I'm trying to amalgamate some international statistics for a course I'm doing for cat rescue. Thank you so much!

I don't know about specific countries but in the entire WORLD over 97% of cats are no particular breed. This is because cats have been domestic for nearly 4,000 years and have bred and interbred for as many years. Plus breeders tend to SELECTIVELY breed their cats - only allowing them to have a litter or two per year. They also tend to sell cats that are altered unless the cat is an accepted cat for their breeding program.

On the contrary, unaltered cats owned by irresponsible pet owners tend to breed continously - having as many as four or five litters each year. Then once those kittens are old enough, they breed as well, and so on. Then add in all the strays and ferals that are breeding freely. So cats of no breed will ALWAYS far surpass pedigreed cats.

I conduct seminars on responsible pet ownership and here's some facts most pet owners don't realize:

    - kittens can be spayed or neutered once they're eight weeks in age and two pounds in weight

    - kittens can reach sexual maturity as early as FOUR MONTHS so waiting till six months is foolish

    - one cat and her unaltered litter can theoretically turn into FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY THOUSAND CATS in just a seven year period if they breed, their offspring breeds, and so on, and so on.

If you want to find more specific facts on the proliferation of non-pedigreed cats in a specific area just Google "pet overpopulation (whatever country)".

    SPAY AND NEUTER!

Source(s): HSUS pet overpopulation facts and I'm an active volunteer with the Northwest's largest no-kill shelter and over twenty years volunteering. This site has info about the % of non-pedigree cats - http://life.familyeducation.com/cats/pets/45684.ht...

Willowcat says that either way, pedigree or non-pedigree, cats will rule the world one day - the plan for domination is going well, as your figures show. Also, they are currently forming an 'alliance' with dogs to help with the cause (by alliance, we mean cats smacking dogs on the noseys and turning them into servents too).

However, Willowcat also thinks this question is very interesting and would like to know herself, and so you can be rewarded with a star <3

How might it prove? in case you took the averages of what number kittens make it alive by way of 5 years and how many do no longer and are killed in basic terms for being born, i might say that if that they had a clutter of 5 kittens a minimum of three of them could be ineffective earlier 5 years previous and maximum might have terrible lives the moral Have a coronary heart and GET THEM fastened

I really don't know for sure, but from what I've seen, I'd say Percy & Penny is right with 97%.
