How long will fleas live off of a cat after they've started front line?

I had got my cat and she was prego,we noticed she had fleas so we asked the vet and he said to wait until she had the kittens to give her frontline, and if we see the kittens have fleas to just give them a warm bath in dawn dish soap,we did even though we didn't see any fleas.. but about a month or so ago we noticed they did have fleas the mother must of gave them fleas ..well now they are 6 months old and we've given them frontline (about 5 days ago) and im just wondering how long this is going to take for them to not have anymore fleas..and does anyone think that maybe that's not good enough & that we might have them in our house?? and if so what should i do next. i just want to get rid of theses little bastards i feel so bad for my babies :(

I just had this happen to me and lucky for me I live in Wisconsin. So all I did was wash all bedding and put some in bags (that I couldn't wash) and put it outside. I sprayed and vacuumed the furniture, carpet/rugs, etc. Then I gave all my pets a bath (2 cats, 1 dog). After about 3 days I was able to guard them all with Front line. I would not go a month without that stuff!!! All the fleas went away and if they come back I am bombing the place! :) As for how long after Front line when they already have it: I saw no more fleas after I killed the eggs in the furniture and the adults everywhere else. Any remaining fleas on the animal if they have Front line will last about 3-5 days I think.

If you have more questions or if you don't understand my answer please ask me further. Like I said I just went through this before winter got here. It was terrible!

My vet said the fleas should die right away as soon as they bite the cat, however you may have them in your carpet or the fabric of the bed the cat's sleep in. I got rid of my flea issue with some Borax Laundry Booster. It is in the laundry isle and is in an aqua and yellow box (powder). Vacuum your carpet really well and sprinkle this stuff down, then sweep it into the carpet really well. I don't know what it does but it kills them. It is safe for animals too so you don't have to worry about them getting in it. I did this for a few weeks (just to be on the safe side) and haven't had any problems sense.

You can be sure they are in your house. The cats have been shedding flea dirt, which is flea eggs, and a mixture of poop and dried blood that the baby fleas will eat. If they don't bite your kitties they might bite humans and can live off that.

So my point is you need to treat your house. Or at least keep it squeaky clean and vacuum every day. If you use chemicals or carpet powders be careful to keep it away from the babies.
