What should you call someone from the United States?

Not "Americans" because that really irritates the Canadians.

Update:

Canadians, and Mexicans may call themselves Americans because they live on the North American continent.

    What's to irritate?

Canadians live in the Commonwealth of CANADA

Americans live in the United States of AMERICA.

ADDED: But by now, aren't all the South Americans, if not irritated, at least feeling left out?

It's true that we are "the America's". In that sense we have Americans, Asians, Africans, and Europeans. But the other continents do not have any nations that call themselves by the name of its continent. (South Africans live in South Africa).

And Australia is a bit of an exception, I suppose, although Tasmanians probably don't want to be called Australians lol.

I'm Canadian. I could care less what you call them.

If it irritates them say it louder. I like the fact that I'm an American.

If it irritates them that's their problem.
