If I was immunio supressed with chemo "type" drugs for about a year....?
I've been off all medicine since July 08. When will my immune system come back? Its slowly coming back, but I catch every cold and sniffle, strep throat.. you name it i get it. Its a little past annoying:)
What time frame am I looking at before I'm "normal" again?
Thanks. I can't get a straight answer from the drs. I feel weird asking this because i'm so thankful i'm "healthy" and its more an annoyance. I have 5 kids to raise and i'm ready to move on.......when will my immune system catch up?
Thank You, BOTZ!
Right back at you....Hope you are right as rain too! cause being sick, sux.

Hi Freckle,
I've been off all of my immuno-suppressing drugs since about August '07. I really didn't FEEL like I was "all the way back" immune-system wise (and I didn't stop catching every bug) until about March of this year. So, I guess that would mean it took me about 7 months.
That's the only thing I can tell you about. I don't know of broader research on the subject and I couldn't get any straight answers either. I'm not off ALL medication though, just the immuno-suppressors. I suppose that could make a difference. Also, I was on mine for just under 3 years. Also, it would depend on what you were taking and how much.
Reading back, I'm not sure that's very helpful. I hope it gives you something to work with, though.
I think the reason the doctors never really tell us is because it can vary so much (depending on our own chemistry as much as anything) from a few weeks to, well...'never'.
Add to that, as an adoptee, I don't have a full family medical history...so doctors are even less likely to tell me anything 'useful' because even they have less to work with in my case. *sigh*
Anyway, I hope you are feeling 'right as rain' very soon.
Take care!
