Bought a cell phone from Craigslist, got scammed?!?
I bought a phone off of a guy on Craigslist.org
After activating it I realized you can't hear anything except the ringtones. I called the guy back and we met again--was going to return but he fixed it (thought it was a setting problem). But went back home and the sound did it again. I've called him a few times now and he's definitely avoiding my calls. He probably had an on and off problem with the speakers on his phone and knew that by playing around with the phone it would come back on......
Well, now he has my money and I have his broken phone. But i also have his license plate number. What should I do... Will the police help in this situation (since it's not that big of a deal for them?).
uhmm... don't give advice if you've never had the situation. i contacted the police, they contacted the owner of the vehicle through the license plate i gave them and they helped me resolve the issue. but thanks for pretending you know somethin! ;)

Sorry, buyer beware, there's no warrenty implied from a private seller, and you can't prove he knew about the problems, so... you're out of luck.
Take it to the provider store and see if tech support will fix it for a reasonable price.

The police will NOT get involved. Secondly, it was YOUR responsibility to make sure EVERYTHING was working on the cell phone. Apparently, you did not do this. If the guy was trying to take your money, you would NOT have met you.
Yes, you can sue, but you will lose! Hard lesson learned!

Nope this is called Buyer Beware or Buyer Remorse
And you didn't get any type of guarantee verbal or in writing.

I am now blocking all such emails from all those thieves and con artists. Beware! When in doubt, delete all email. Never click on their ads. They are desperate.

NO the police will do nothing - precisely because it is NOT MUCH OF A SITUATION.
You need to find out who he is and take him to the small claims court.
