Cat diabetes? or just hungry cat?

My friend has recently put her cat on a diet because she felt that her cat was eating too much compared to mine (not that she is fat at all she just eats and spend all her energy running around the house all day long), but today when my friend was gone i saw the cat eating brown sugar that she had left on the counter, i quickly took it away but the cat was shaking and so i fed her, since her bowl was empty.. When my friend came back home i told her so and she got mad at me for feeding the cat she said that if the cat had any problems the vet would have told her and so that its the cats own fault for eating the sugar and so if she gets sick its not her fault.. I'm worried for the cat as of the shaking made me thought that it might be something serious.. could the cat have diabetes and if she did would the vet really have knew right away without checking for that problem?

The most common symptoms of diabetes is excessive drinking and peeing then weight loss so you friend would have noticed something wrong You did right taking away the sugar and I am surprised any cat would touch that stuff as they don't usually like sugar

Diabetes aside, she doesn't sound like a very good pet owner! I mean, if she leaves antifreeze out and the cat drinks some and dies, is she going to shrug and say "well, she shouldn't have drunk it"?

The vet might not know if the cat has anything just by looking at it, if the cat doesn't look bad. And in the early stages of a condition, they might not show signs like being unkempt and being too skinny.

So if your friend doesn't tell her vet anything about the cat's behavior, they wouldn't necessarily know if anything is wrong.

So yes, it's possible there could be a problem but there would be symptoms such as what the other person described.

I would definitely caution her about leaving potentially dangerous foods and other items within the cat's reach.

I would say its probably just a hungry cat, and your friend is not doing her cat any favors, unless she notices that the cat is getting fat, she should not try to put it on a diet, cats like to nibble at their food throughout the day, and so limiting the amount of food can cause them to gorge themselves at a later point and become sick for fear that they do not know when they get their next meal. Also, cats are like humans in that some cats need more food, because they have a faster metabolism, and if the kitty is running around getting plenty of exercise then there is no reason whatsoever to limit his food. The shaking is probably due to the fact that cats do not metabolize sugars as easily or as well as humans.

You don’t need to exercise for hours on end. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results should you work hard. Get a passing up rope, skip for two a few minutes, do push ups for a minute or so, skip for two minutes, rest for just one minute. Then change the push approximately something else like sit ups along with do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a simple, effective workout that will recover results than a long function or swim.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Read here https://tr.im/IClGp

Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

Low-fat protein is a great basis for a weight reduction. Foods like lean turkey, lentils and eggs inside the right quantities will keep the sugar levels even, make you really feel fuller for longer, lower the GI from the carbs you combine it along with and help repair damaged cells.

One grapefruit every day during a 120-week weight-loss plan might take 3lb off your overall targeted. Scripps Clinic in San Diego has found how the Vit-C packed citrus reduces insulin degrees, which stop you craving sweet things. Try it in savoury in addition to sweet dishes for added pep.

Man up. Studies show that girls binge on food more as compared to men and, when food options are emotional, it’s a formula for disaster. Instead, eat small amounts when you’re hungry, not really when you’re bored or unhappy, and once a week day the girls for beer and also pizza – you’ve earned it.
