Should the United States introduce Proportional Representation (PR) on the state level?

For those who do not know what Proportional Representation is

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_represen...

Right now most states in the US (with the exception of Nebraska) have Bicameral legislators where the only difference between the House and the Senate are the numbers and the populations of the district. (Unlike the US congress where in the Senate each state has two seats regardless of size)

To me the idea of having two chambers elected in the same fashion seems redundant. Maybe Proportional Representation, in the form of party lists, for state level houses would generate more interest in the elections and allow smaller parties participate in the Government.

Do you think it would be a good idea or not?

I agree, and I particularly like the idea of majority elections for the Senate and proportional representation in the House. Coalition governments might result, and this system tends to prevent extremes.

States can decide how to divide their legislative branches.

But you can pick any national government anywhere in the world. Canada, Israel, japan, etc that has multiparty representation and it gets worse than ours sometimes.

is it fair that the party that receives the most votes not control the legislature because all the other parties formed a coalition among themselves and hold a majority? In US politics, this would, perhaps be a recipe for disaster for those that honestly believe that the party with the most votes rules and does anything it wants to.

States can come to a decision the thank you to divide their legislative branches. yet you may %. any nationwide government everywhere indoors the international. Canada, Israel, japan, etc that has multiparty representation and it gets worse than ours each and each so oftentimes. is it trustworthy that the social amassing that gets the foremost votes no longer administration the legislature because of the reality each and each of diverse activities formed a coalition between themselves and carry a majority? In US politics, this could, in all probability be a recipe for disaster for people who truthfully have self concept that the social amassing with the foremost votes regulations and does something it needs to.

It would be more representative of the population and would take a bit of the showmanship and personal attacks out of the picture perhaps (leaning to a more issues oriented process). But it would have to be accompanied with a educated populace, and some level playing field (at least giving access to others).
