How come some Christians claim they're persecuted when non-Christians question them?
They are the majority in the US and practically rule this country, how can they be persecuted? It's everyone else who is persecuted...
Lumbalth - Bwahaha yes I am!
Sylvia - Absolutely NOT. I am gay. These Christians who claim to be "persecuted" by me wanting equal rights is just disgusting.

They thrive on drama and they think if they say that it justifies their intolerant, bigoted agenda.

In today's popular culture if you say you are a Christian some people label you as a bigot, hater, racist and close minded. People in California actually protest in front of Christian Churches and throw rocks thu windows. A week or so ago Hollywood actors made a skit staring Jack Black that mocked Christ and Christianity while others laughed.
Not all Christians are knowledgeable enough about their faith that they can answer questions. Many times the questions we get are not out of genuine interest rather it is from someone trying to make us look like a fool or "prove" some point they wish to make. Because of this they take is as being persecuted.
Christianity does not persecute, it saves. Plain and simple.
When people claiming to be Christians do persecute they are not following the teachings of Jesus Christ and are not sanctioned by God.
Don't let those actions blemish all true Christians.

Persecution
n.
1. The act or practice of persecuting on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs that differ from those of the persecutor.
Well, they're being discriminated against because of their religion, so technically they are being persecuted. It has nothing to do with majorities. Nobody should be persecuting anybody, and when fanatical atheists say "well it's time for a taste of their own medicine" they're just hurting their cause. Revenge is not a very nice thing to do.

Christians are not the majority, they like to say they are, but with the thousands of denominations all claiming to be "True Christians" and saying all others are not, only one can be and it would be a very small number.
If you split Christianity into all its denominations within America alone, not one of them even comes close to having as large a collective number as groups such as homosexuals or atheists.
Screaming "persecution" gets attention and the Christians love attention.

All religions deal with some kind of persecution. I am Wiccan, and we do deal with our share. The Christians like to think that they are the only ones, but look what they did historically, they were responsible for the Spanish Inquisition where they killed many people, and lets not forget the Salem witch trials and the witch trials of Europe where they killed many more people.

First of all Christians are not the majority in this country. The majority of America may call themselves Christians or people like you just pull it out of a hat as if to say that you have all the facts. Christians in America don't go through much persecution. At least not yet. Most Christians in America just have to listen to non believing people who don't have a clue about the topic that they are asking about. And when we give the answer to your question, you either don't understand because you don't go to church, read the bible, pray, experience God's power from doing all of what I just mentioned, or you just don't want to believe it or accept it. You usually don't say thanks for the answer but offer snide remarks or rude comments in disbelief. But this isn't persecution. This is just ignorance on your part. And as far as everyone else who is being persecuted, how are they persecuted? By the word of God that you don't understand? Are you saying that you are being stocked by Christians on your way to work? Do we trip you up on the sidewalk? Did any of us try to gang save you on your front porch? Or are you just throwing in a bunch of the usual ill conceived lies that are used to make your gripe more palatable to other non believers to get them to jump on the band wagon with you. Its funny how you have tried to make yourself and all non Christians the victim here. Especially since none of this stuff has even happened. If you are going to make an accurate and intelligent accusation, try using the truth. But then you cant slander people with truth can you?

In every group there is always someone who cries louder than the rest if they don't get their way. Whether society entertains of dismisses them is the real question. Thankfully society in America has become more free thinking and less dogmatic as of late. Maybe not so much, but all things take time. Baby steps my dear. We are all waiting on something. You gay rights, maybe the right to marry. Me equal pay for women and fair treatment of animals.

Claims of persecution are meant to elicit the empathy for the alleged victim, and provide an avoidance excuse from answering some real tough questions.
Unfortunately, these claims are unfounded. Questions do not persecute anyone.

I know, I can't understand that either. I mean you learn by questioning things. I don't mind if they question me about being atheist.
Anyway having said that I have a couple of very nice Christian people on my contacts, and they like me for who I am, even though I don't share their beliefs. Mutual respect.
I think it's mainly those fundamentalist ones who take offense easily, or get the wrong end of the stick.
In Britain they're very quite Christians anyway, and don't cause bother.

They detest all that opposes them. I'm bisexual, I want equal rights too. Why not. But Christians see people who don't follow their set of beliefs to be not only wrong but a threat. Who in blasphemies name gave them the right to choose what is morally correct and right in life. I say screw them all. We need only ask ourselves what's right. It's more than bull crap and they know it. They just want to see hold long they can hold the world by the throat until it fights but.
